The River Ter is a river in the northeast of the Iberian Peninsula that flows through Catalonia (Spain). Its source is in Ulldeter at an altitude of 2,480 meters at the foot of a glacial cirque in the Ripollés region of the Pyrenees, very close to the town of Setcasas and, after a length of just over 200 km, it empties into the Mediterranean Sea downstream from Torroella. from Montgri.

Description

The Ter river, with a length of 208 kilometers, is the longest and mightiest (25m³/s) of the internal Catalan basins. Its source is in Ulldeter, in the Eastern Pyrenees, and crosses the regions of Ripollés, Osona, Selva, and Gironés, passing through the city of Gerona, and Bajo Ampurdán, flowing into the Mediterranean at Gola del Ter, between the towns of Estartit and Pals. Between Osona and La Selva is the Sau-Susqueda-Pasteral reservoir system, intended to regulate the flow, to produce electricity, and to contribute 8 m³/s to the metropolitan area of Barcelona for consumption.

In the River Ter, next to the Llobregat, many textile industrial colonies were installed that promoted Catalan industrialization, such as the Manlleu Ter Industrial Canal. Nearly 200 dams have been installed in its bed, today many are used to produce electricity, since textile production moved to Asian countries and Eastern Europe at the end of the 20th century, although many industries recycled and use energy hydraulics. On the other hand, irrigated agriculture is not very abundant, and is present mainly in the regions of Gerona and Bajo Ampurdán, with the Colomés dam, which irrigates a production of fruit trees.
