Temari (character)
Temari (テマリ, Temari ?) is a character from the manga and anime Naruto. She is the daughter of the fourth Kazekage, along with Gaara and Kankurō, being the eldest of the three and wife of Shikamaru Nara. She has a giant fan with which she manipulates the wind and is very skilled with it (suffice it to say that she can measure the distance with her opponent using her fan). She is good strategy and possesses wind type chakra. She holds the rank of jounin, summoning contract with a weasel named Kamatari. Temari is currently married to Shikamaru Nara with whom she has a son named Shikadai Nara.
Personality
Temari is an analyst type, she can deduce an opponent's weak points soon after starting a fight and come up with the best strategy against him. Her character is dominant and direct, in a way she is also shy and reserved at specific times but they are noticeable throughout the anime being a characteristic of this character. He also has a compassionate side towards others and a high valuation of peace, as shown by him questioning the invasion of Konoha during the chūnin exam flashbacks. Three years later she is seen as an ambassador for Sunagakure in Konoha, helping in the preparation for the following chunnin exams. Her relationship with Gaara has improved since her first appearance, although she is not as close as Kankurō is towards him. However, she is shown that the welfare of her siblings is one of her priorities.
Most of Temari's appearances are associated with Shikamaru Nara. They face each other in bouts for the first round of the chūnin exams. Later, during Sasuke's escape, she is the one who goes to help Shikamaru in his fight with Tayuya. Later, during the filler, Temari is saved by Shikamaru and Ino, although Ino couldn't help and she felt bad seeing Shikamaru and Temari's fabulous teamwork.
When Naruto returns to Konoha after his training with Jiraiya, seeing them together he asks if they were on a date, but they both deny it, adding that Shikamaru was just escorting Temari to the Land of Sand. Although they are currently on friendly terms, Temari still names Shikamaru as the person he wants to fight the most.
Also, Temari has peculiar tastes. While chestnuts and tofu soup are her favorite foods, she totally detests octopus and squid; and his hobby is observing plants.
First season
The Chunin Exam
Temari's first appearance in Naruto occurs in chapter 34 of the manga and 20 of the anime, together with Kankuro after Konohamaru collided head-on with him. She tries with little effort to stop her younger brother by warning her that Gaara would be with them soon. Finally, after Gaara's appearance, they both leave, without Sakura asking where they are from and Temari showing her Genin pass from Sunagakure.
During the written test, question the method used. Then Kankuro would pass him the answers obtained through his Karasu puppet. In the forest of death, after Gaara finished off the Rain Village genin, when he tries to annihilate those who were watching the match (team 8) she stops him by fearfully asking her older sister as a favor..
During the chunin exam preliminaries, Temari must face Tenten. Tenten begins the match by throwing numerous weapons at Temari, which he easily deflects using his fan on him with almost imperceptible movements. Temari warns Tenten that when his fan is fully open showing the three moons it will end the fight. Upon reaching such an instance, Temari uses his fully open fan to launch Tenten into a whirlwind of chakra-laced wind. As the whirlpool subsides, Tenten falls directly into Temari's closed fan, who tries to throw her into the weapons scattered on the floor, despite already being named the winner of the match. Rock Lee jumps into the arena saving Tenten. In the manga the fight between the two of them was not shown, only the beginning and the end appearing, without showing what happened in it.
In the time between the preliminaries and the finals of the exam, a flashback is shown in which she questions the invasion of Konoha, citing that it was a very difficult treaty for the village to get. That's when we see her interest in peace for the first time.
In the final rounds of the Chunin Exam, Temari fights Shikamaru Nara. Knowing the shadow manipulation abilities, which he uses to capture his opponents, Temari remains out of range of the shadows. This encounter shows the great strategist abilities that both have when it comes to analyzing an enemy. Despite this caution, Shikamaru uses various tactics to buy time, as the stadium's shadows grow longer. As Temari evades his attacks and prepares his latest strategy, Shikamaru manages to catch her. He had been guiding her to a position where her shadow could travel through the holes caused by the previous fight between Naruto and Neji, without the latter noticing. Despite this, Shikamaru gives up at the last moment, claiming that he did not have enough chakra left, but that he had thought of two hundred different ways to end the match. Finally Temari is declared the winner of the match.
The Invasion of Konoha
When the invasion of Konoha begins, during Sasuke and Gaara's fight, Temari and Kankuro are forced to leave the village carrying Gaara. In the anime, when Sasuke pursues them, Temari delegates Gaara's care to Kankuro to try to buy time by holding Sasuke back, though he easily defeats her. He would then reappear once Sasuke catches up with his brothers, recharging Gaara to escape while Kankuro fights Sasuke, who is later replaced by Shino. During the course of Gaara's transformation into Shukaku, we can see how afraid she is of the monster, almost going into a state of shock and panic.
After Naruto defeats Gaara, she and Kankuro appear to protect their brother, who tells them to leave, during the trip back to the arena, Gaara apologizes to both of them.
Sasuke's Escape
As requested by the Fifth Hokage, Temari and her brothers, now allies of Konoha, go as reinforcements for Team Shikamaru, to try to rescue Sasuke Uchiha. Temari arrives to help Shikamaru in his fight with Tayuya, when he was about to give up. She asks Shikamaru for the information about her opponent, after explaining Tayuya's abilities, Shikamaru thinks they should back off to think of a strategy, to which she is uninterested. Temari uses a summoning technique with her fan: Kuchiyose, Kiri Kiri Mai, knocking down the trees around them and causing Tayuya's death.
She later appears in the Konoha hospital criticizing Shikamaru's lack of emotional control training. But her attitude changes after hearing the words that Shikaku addresses to her son. And she is relieved to know that all the members of the team are out of danger.
Filling
In episodes 217 to 220, when a student of Gaara's (Matsuri) is kidnapped by the Shiitenshounin, Temari and Kankuro go with him to rescue her. During this arc, Temari, is forced to face a woman with abilities similar to hers. Despite being able to fight her on an equal footing for a while, her opponent's abilities begin to overwhelm her. When Temari was about to lose Shikamaru and Ino arrive as reinforcements sent by Konoha to help them. Temari and Shikamaru immediately begin to squabble over her latest mission, but are later able to defeat their opponent by combining her abilities.
Second season
Foreword
Temari is seen in the anime when she enters the office of the hokage, Tsunade Senju accompanied by Shikamaru, at first Naruto does not recognize her and mistakes her for his opponent. While in the manga the meeting takes place in one of the streets of Konoha where Shikamaru and Temari meet Naruto and Sakura. Seeing them together, Naruto thinks that they are on a date, which they both deny, clarifying that it is a mission, since Temari, now Junin, is working as an ambassador for Sunagakure in Konoha for the preparation of the next Chunin exams and Shikamaru has the mission. to escort her, in addition to working as an examiner in them.
Gaara's Rescue
Later Naruto, Sakura and Kakashi would meet Temari on their way back to their village. Learning of Gaara's kidnapping by the Akatsuki, he joins Team 7 on their journey to Sunagakure. During the trip, Temari ends up understanding the strong bond that unites Gaara and Naruto (due to the fact that they are both Bijus Jinchūrikis, Gaara with Shukaku and Naruto with Kurama respectively) and silently thanks him. Arriving at the village, Temari discovers that Kankuro has been badly injured and poisoned while trying to chase down Gaara's kidnappers. Wishing to save the brothers from him, Temari plans to join Team 7, but is assigned another mission. When Kankuro is recovered enough to walk, they leave to meet up with Team 7. Arriving at the location, Gaara is being revived by the elderly Chiyo with Naruto's help. Temari and Kankuro thank the Konoha team for saving his brother. Temari then confesses that he never thought Naruto could help Gaara.
Meeting of the Kages
Temari appears again in the manga during the meeting of the Kages accompanying Gaara to the meeting as his bodyguard. Temari and his brothers make it safely to the Land of Iron, where they are greeted by Mifune and his samurai. When Zetsu appears during the Kage meeting, Temari and Kankuro take a defensive position in front of Gaara. As Gaara intervened in the fight between the Raikage and Sasuke, Temari took steps to save a samurai who had been hit with Amaterasu. The burning armor was cut, and Kankuro pulled out of the area. He then joined as part of a four-way attack against Sasuke that proved useless once Susanoo was used. Sasuke then leaves the meeting battlefield. Once they arrive, they see Madara torturing Sasuke, who has passed out. Madara asks them to hand over Naruto and Killer Bee to him. With the Kage rejecting the order, he officially declares the Fourth Ninja War. Temari then follows his brothers to break the news to his Daimyo. Later, she and her brothers go to inform Naruto, Kakashi, Sai and Yamato about what happened at the Kage meeting.
The Fourth Shinobi War
At the beginning of the war she is grouped into the fourth division: Long Distance Fighters under Gaara, along with Shikamaru and Chouji. Despite this, Gaara is also the overall commander of the shinobi alliance, which is why he tells Shikamaru that he is actually the leader.
Skills
Temari is clearly a long-distance fighter, specializing in attacking the enemy from afar. She has also shown to be a skilled strategist and analyst, being able to deduce the opponent's weaknesses from her and devise a strategy against him. During her combat with Shikamaru she was able to quickly figure out the weakness of her Mimicking Shadow Technique, as well as being able to continuously measure the distance she was from the technique's range of action. Even though she was ultimately defeated by Shikamaru's strategy, Asuma recognized her as a great strategist.
Fan
Temari uses a huge fan (鉄扇, tessen) as her main combat weapon. In addition to being able to use it as a blunt weapon or being able to plan to climb over it, three purple painted circles stand out from this fan, which Temari calls stars or moons, according to the dubbing.. This fan is capable of generating powerful winds that Temari manipulates with his chakra to attack or defend, and the power of said winds increases according to the number of stars it displays. Once he has shown all the circles, Temari is able to generate powerful slashing winds that allow her to attack the enemy from a great distance, while at the same time being able to deflect most projectile attacks that the enemy tries to throw at her. From this fan Temari is also able to summon a kind of weasel with a scythe called Kamatari to attack the enemy. Recently in the Meeting of Kages it has been seen that Temari no longer physically carries the fan with her, but summons it from a scroll when he needs to use it.
