Technical death metal
technical death metal (from English, technical death metal) is a musical subgenre of death metal, characterized primarily by focusing its composition on complex structures and rhythms.
History
The musical subgenre develops in the late '80s and early 1990s, probably taking as a reference the American band Death, who with their album Human (1991) they took the style to another level; chaotic solos and a sensation of technique closer to the style of the mythical progressive thrash metal band Watchtower, but with the riffing and a more energetic and aggressive attitude. Cynic, with the release of their first album, Focus, and Atheist with Unquestionable presence, laid the foundations of the style. place the birth of the genre there. Bands like Nocturnus, or Pestilence (1991-1994), greatly influenced the development of technical/progressive death metal. Later Meshuggah without being a death metal band itself, with their album: Contradictions collapse marked the beginnings of what would be a great influence for some more experimental and modern metal bands.
As death metal evolved, in parallel, some musicians experimented with elements from a wide variety of musical genres. As a result of this experimentation, exemplifications by bands like Suffocation, Cryptopsy and Gorguts make the musical style establish itself as a complex and highly varied musical subgenre. The most outstanding technical death metal bands are Decapitated, Brain Drill, Spawn Of Possession, Viraemia, and Psycroptic, among others.
Suffocation, formed in 1989, is considered the pioneering band of brutal technical death metal, making this style known with the release of the 3-song demo Reincremation in 1990, and their first full length., Effigy of the Forgotten in 1991.
