Tarija is a drum, typical of Moroccan folklore.

It is shaped like a ceramic cup, with a single membrane or skin leaving the bottom of the cup open and free. From the same family as the darbuka or tombak, the tarija usually has a string under the head that resonates when it vibrates, amplifying and distorting its sound. Through the interpretation technique, various sounds are achieved: bass, treble, dry or resonant, which allow a varied play for the musical rhythm.
