Tampico metropolitan area
The Tampico Metropolitan Area is the continuity of the city of Tampico to the contiguous municipalities, it is located in the Mexican states of Tamaulipas and Veracruz, it is next to Mexico City, Querétaro the Comarca Lagunera, Puebla, La Piedad and Puerto Vallarta are some of the two-state Metropolitan Areas of Mexico. It extends along the Pánuco River on the slope of the Gulf of Mexico. It covers the following municipalities:
In Tamaulipas:
- Tampico.
- Altamira
- Ciudad Madero.
In Veracruz:
- Old Town
- Pánuco
Demographics
The area in 2020, according to the population and housing census carried out by INEGI, the suburban area was home to 927,379 inhabitants, of which more than 750,000 inhabitants live in the state of Tamaulipas. In addition, this metropolitan area has tourist places such as Laguna del Carpintero, Bicentennial Park, Maritime Customs Park, Champayán Playa Miramar, Historical Center of the municipalities and the Pánuco River that divides the municipalities.
Transportation
In Tampico there are countless routes for transporting the population, every day more than 800,000 need to move through different points of the metropolitan area. Most of the routes are concentrated in the downtown area of Tampico, which start along the main avenues and then distribute towards the neighborhoods of Tampico, Madero and Altamira, with respect to Pueblo Viejo and Pánuco the routes start by road.
