Summer Roberts is a fictional character on the television series The O.C, played by Rachel Bilson.

History

Summer Roberts is a rich and pretty teenager from Newport (where high net worth people live and where lies and rumors come and go). She is the best friend of Marissa Cooper and has a great reputation at Harbor School. She is fond of gossip magazines and a television series called "El Valle". At the age of 13, her mother abandoned her and her father, which is why she has been very close to him, Dr. Neil Roberts, ever since.

Seasons

First season

In the first few chapters, you can see a before and after and how his character has evolved.

Seth Cohen has had a crush on her since grade school and she doesn't know it. With the arrival of Ryan Atwood (Seth's adoptive brother) things change. Summer sees Ryan, takes an interest in him and invites him to a party and he in turn invites Seth. At the party, Summer finds out that Ryan is from Chino (a neighborhood considered vulgar) and she stops being interested in her (there she shows how superficial he is in this season). During the summer, she and Seth get to know each other and in the end they end up in love with each other (even though he already was). But a little mishap arises: Anna Stern arrives, a very pretty blonde girl with short hair, who is the exact copy of Seth Cohen's tastes and preferences. The two fight over Seth, who ultimately chooses Anna. Summer tries to forget about him, and he about her, but in the end Anna ends up leaving Newport for Christmas. Summer and Seth finally go out together. Before making it official, Summer tries not to let people (especially at school) know that she's dating Seth out of embarrassment, but in the end Seth makes it official by climbing on the counter in the school cafeteria. Despite all the setbacks, they often quarrel and make up frequently. At the end of the season, Seth leaves and leaves her after Ryan leaves the house.

2nd. Season

Summer, being dumped by Seth, sees a therapist all summer to help her forget him (even giving Seth's mom, Kirsten Cohen, back all of Seth's stuff that I had). When Ryan and Seth return, Summer begins dating a boy from Harbor School: Zach Stephens, a boy from a very good family, handsome and intelligent, a member of the school's water polo team and with a not very typical fan base for his profile, they like comics. Seth, not knowing that Zach is going out with Summer, becomes good friends with her... but when he finds out that he is dating her... her troubles ensue. Zach and Seth start writing a comic, with Seth drawing the characters. As Seth prepares to draw Summer, their relationship becomes more tense. She ends up discovering under his bed a block with all the drawings of her portrait. Summer and Zach want to take their relationship very seriously. Zach invites Summer to her sister's wedding, but as they are about to leave at the airport, Summer discovers that she still hasn't gotten over Seth and is the one she is truly in love with. They resume their relationship and thus ends the second season.

3rd. Season

Summer and Seth go through their good days and their bad days together, until a new girl named Taylor Townsend (outcast, friendless, but shy by everyone sometimes, and has always wanted to being a member of the Harbor school party committee) stands between the couple, falling in love with Seth, but he is not interested and rejects her. Summer and Seth start choosing future colleges, which they ultimately decide on Brown University, which Seth always wanted to go to. Summer, excited, begins to choose luggage for the two of them, but on the day of the interview for access, Seth is smoking marijuana provided by Kaitlin Cooper (Marissa Cooper's slightly problematic sister, arriving at the end of the second season). When the letter of access is sent to them, Summer is admitted, but Seth is denied. He starts with a lie and tells her that he has entered. When Summer finds out that she lied to him, they break up and later make up. During these events, Marissa begins to have drug problems and to lead a life without control, for which she and Summer end up fighting (something they had never done, since the relationship between them is very good), although they reconcile. The third season ends with the death of Marissa.

Season 4

After the shocking death of her best friend, Summer heads off to Brown University for a change of scenery, while Seth stays in Newport Beach hoping to get into college the next semester. Ryan collapses and leaves the Cohen house and goes off to fight in the underworld. Summer cannot and does not want to get over Marissa's death. In Brown, Summer meets Che, an environmentalist who invites her to join his fight for nature. When he is in college, he wants to isolate himself from what really happened, he tries not to talk to Seth and isolates himself in hippie parties and proposals to save nature, but later he realizes everything he left behind in Newport Beach (problems without resolving). When she gets there, she feels that she can't face the problems and goes back to the university. There she realizes that she needs help to move on and decides to go to a psychologist, who ends up helping her and later, Summer is expelled from the university and discovers that Che was more millionaire than her. Seth and Summer agree to enter Brown together next year. Summer and Seth's relationship grows stronger, but at the end of the season she goes on a bus trip with the "George Co-op" for a while, because she feels that it is what she should do. After Summer and Seth graduate from college, they get married. The relationship is based on the fact that even if it is hard, you have to fight for true love, despite the circumstances.
