Suleimaniya or Suleimaniyah is one of the eighteen governorates that make up the republic of Iraq. Its capital is the homonymous Sulemania. Located in the northeast of the country, it borders Erbil to the northwest, Iran to the east, Diala to the south, Saladin to the southwest, and Kirkuk to the west. With 1,878,800 inhabitants. in 2011 it is the fourth largest governorate, behind Baghdad, Nineveh and Basra.

Other cities are: Halabjah and Qal at Bizah. It is part of Iraqi Kurdistan along with Duhok and Erbil.
