Sudan flag
The national flag of the Sudan was adopted on May 20, 1970. It is a flag divided into horizontal stripes of the same size. The upper stripe is red, the central one is white and the lower one is black. On the side closest to the mast there is a green triangle.
Until the military coup led by Jaafar al-Numeiry in 1969, the Sudanese flag was blue, yellow and green. Years before the independence of South Sudan, it was already considered only the banner of the northern region of the country. South Sudan had adopted a new flag, the current one, with a blue triangle on the pole and a yellow star inside, as well as a black, a red and a green stripe, all horizontal, separated from each other by two thin white stripes.
Symbolism
Red stands for the shed blood of martyrs and sacrifice of independence, white stands for peace, optimism and light, green stands for Islam and agriculture and black stands for Sudan, Sudan means black in Arabic.
