The subthalamus is the diencephalic structure located between the midbrain, thalamus, and hypothalamus. It lies next to the medial side of the internal capsule. Collaborates with motor information, intervenes in qualifying the motor act. It works by coordinating with the basal ganglia.

Anatomical Parts

The subthalamus receives fibers from the spinothalamic tracts, the cerebellum, and the red nucleus, which travel the entire extrapyramidal pathway of the medulla oblongata.
