Stuart O'Grady
Stuart Peter O'Grady (Adelaide, August 6, 1973) is an Australian athlete who competed in cycling in the modalities of track, specialist in pursuit, scoring and madison tests., and route, belonging to the Australian GreenEDGE team between 2012 and 2013.
He participated in six Summer Olympic Games, between 1992 and 2012, obtaining a total of four medals: silver in Barcelona 1992, in team pursuit (together with Brett Aitken, Stephen McGlede and Shaun O'Brien), two bronzes in Atlanta 1996, in scoring and team pursuit (with Bradley McGee, Timothy O'Shannessey and Dean Woods), and a gold in Athens 2004, in the madison trial (along with Graeme Brown).
He won five medals at the Track Cycling World Championships between 1991 and 1995.
On the road, his best results were four stage victories in the Tour de France (in the 1998 and 2004 editions and in the team time trials of 2001 and 2013) and two stages of the 2004 Vuelta a España (the time trials by teams of 2006 and 2011).
On July 23, 2013, he announced his retirement from cycling after 19 years as a professional, and having ridden uninterruptedly in the Tour de France for 17 years. In addition, one day after announcing his retirement, he confessed to having doped during the 1990s era. After having confessed, his name appeared in the French senate report as one of the thirty cyclists who would have tested positive in the 1998 Tour de France retrospectively.
Since January 2020 he is the Tour Down Under race director.
