Street Fighter II': Hyper Fighting, known in Japan as Street Fighter II' Turbo: Hyper Fighting is a fighting video game originally published in Japan in 1992. It is the second arcade extension of Street Fighter II after Street Fighter II: Champion Edition, being later ported to different platforms. Released less than a year after the previous version, Hyper Fighting introduced faster game speed, and new special moves for certain characters, as well as improvements to their balance.

Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting was the final arcade game in the Street Fighter series to use the CP System hardware. The next game in the series, Super Street Fighter II, switched to CP System II hardware.

Differences

Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting included the following gameplay inherited from Street Fighter II: Champion Edition.

Increased game speed

As evident from its subtitle, Hyper Fighting increased the overall speed of the previous game. As a result, the commands for special moves, as well as the timing of following one move with another during a combo, were even more severe than in Champion Edition, making it easier to make a mistake. The game's faster speed also allowed players to get into battle faster, as well as counterattack faster.

New special moves

All characters, except for Guile and three of the four final bosses (Balrog, Vega and M. Bison), have new moves:

  • Chun Li: You can throw a fireball like Ryu and Ken.
  • Dhalsim: Now it has a movement to teleport (usually Mortal Kombat).
  • E. Honda: has a new movement called Super Hyakkan Otoshi.
  • Blanka: has a new movement called Vertical Rolling very similar to Rolling Attack as it moves up.
  • Ken and Ryu: they can run the Tatsu Maki Senpukyaku in the air.

Color palette

All characters were re-colored with new colors instead of those used in Champion Edition. With the exception of M. Bison, the character's new color was selected by pressing any attack button, while the original color was selected by pressing B.
