History

On June 15, 1998, Lutz Sammer released the first version with the intention of creating an alternate version of Warcraft II, under the name ALE Clone. In 1999 it was renamed to Freecraft.

In June 2003, the project received a judicial order, cease and desist, from the Blizzard Entertainment company, which demanded by judicial complaint the stoppage and closure of the project due to the confusion of the name with the games of its property (Warcraft and Starcraft) in addition to the use of some ideas similar to those used in Warcraft II. Finally, the developers terminated the project as such on June 20, 2003.

Shortly after some of the initial team joined to recover and develop a new project that resumed the previous one with a change in its philosophy: freedom for its personalization was promoted and thought as a fundamental objective, emerging parallel projects that offer different settings and styles of game.
