This houses the Stargate, an alien artifact capable of creating a wormhole that allows people or objects to be instantly transported to any other point in the universe where a Stargate also exists. The network of Stargates throughout the Milky Way is very extensive.

Features

The SGC is located one thousand meters underground. This fact protects it from all kinds of attacks, including nuclear explosions, and also prevents any disease from being spread to the rest of the world. However, it is known that in an alternate universe, he was not able to withstand a large-scale attack.

The SGC also serves as a site for alien technology research, but the largest and longest projects take place at Area 51. On more than one occasion, SGC personnel have had to leave the base to recapture technology. alien that had gone out into the outside world. SGC personnel sign a contract to keep the existence of the base and all operations carried out there secret. The vast majority of the staff sleeps there. They are allowed to leave the base to lead a normal life whenever the situation allows. Many cover-up stories have been generated to maintain the general public's ignorance about the existence of the SGC.

History

Mountain Creek

The Stargate, originally found in 1928 in Giza, Egypt, was stored in various locations in the United States before being installed at the Creek Mountain Complex. It was studied there for many years, but no one was able to get it to work properly until Egyptologist and archaeologist Daniel Jackson was introduced to Project Giza, precursor to the SGC, in the mid-1990s. Jackson discovered that the symbols around the perimeter of the Stargate device were actually representations of the constellations and not Egyptian hieroglyphs, as was first believed, and that the device could mark another Stargate if at least 7 of its chevrons were encoded in those symbols, as a combination of lock. This marking activates a wormhole between the marking gate and one of the millions of Stargates that exist in the universe, allowing instant travel to other worlds.

Cheyenne Mountain

The series begins precisely in this facility, when it is attacked by the Goa'uld Apophis. After this incident, the Commander of the base, General George Hammond, gathers the members of the first mission to Abydos, who then go to search for Dr. Daniel Jackson on that planet to learn more about the new enemy.
