The spatial adaptation syndrome (SAS) is the specific form of motion sickness suffered by astronauts during space travel and is caused by the absence of gravity. It reduces astronauts' performance during the first few days of spaceflight, but adaptation usually occurs within a few days. Excessive movement that worsens symptoms should be avoided.
