The Castilian group is made up of the Romance languages descendants of medieval Castilian as well as some Creoles with a Spanish lexical base. Among the historical varieties of this group are:

  • Peninsular varieties
    • medieval
    • English, from which most modern varieties are derived both peninsular and extrapensular.
    • Modern peninsular whose regional varieties are divided into:
      • Northern Castellano
      • Southern Castellano
      • Zincaló which is rather a Spanish lyxical cryollo.
  • Extra-pensular varieties
    • Sefardi or Ladino (Israel, Turkey, Balkans) who is a descendant of medieval Spanish, not of Auric Spanish, among the subvaries is the judeospañol calco (Morocco, Hispanic)
    • Among the extra-pensular varieties derived from auric Spanish are:
      • Canaries
      • Spanish American with numerous variants.
    • In addition there are Spanish-based Creole languages such as:
      • Chabacano
      • Papiamento
      • Palenquero
    • Varieties of modern Spanish in Africa
      • Ecuadorian Spanish
      • Spanish of Morocco
      • Spanish in Western Sahara'
