Contenido The southern district or South District (in Hebrew: מחוז הדרום, transliterate: mehoz hadarom ) is one of the six districts of Israel, being the most extensive and in turn the least inhabited. The population is 1,086,240 inhabitants. It covers the Néguev region and the Aravá Valley. The capital is Beerseba and its largest city is Ascod. It borders the n with the central and Jerusalem districts, the ne with the West Bank (Judea), to the E with Jordan, to the S with the Gulf of Áqaba, to the SO with Egypt, to or with 51 km with the strip of Gaza, and to the Not with the Mediterranean Sea. It contains the southwest part of the Dead Sea, along the border with Jordan to Eilat.
