Socotri language

ImprimirCitar

Socotrí (autonym: méthel d-saqátri; Arabic اللغة السقطرية al-luġah al-suquṭrī) is the native language of the Socotris, the inhabitants of the island of Socotra off the coast of Yemen. It is a Semitic language. Since Socotra women are prohibited from leaving the island, it is very rare to find Socotri speakers in mainland Yemen. This makes the language separate from the rest of Yemen. Arabic is also spoken on the island of Socotra.
