Nieves Xenes (Quivicán, 1859 - July 8, 1915) was a Cuban romantic and modernist poet of the 19th century.

Trajectory

No information has been released about his childhood and adolescence. When he was 19 years old, after a long stay at Finca La Esperanza, owned by his parents and located in the El Aguacate farmhouse, also in Quivicán, the family settled in Havana.

He began to write poetry on his own in a self-taught way. His recurring themes were patriotism and love. Her work exalts the natural beauties of Cuba, her love for her country and the cruel destiny that imprisoned her in an impossible love and a loving passion for the orator José Antonio Cortina that she never declared.

Over the years, he isolated himself from the world and finally stopped writing, possibly due to his mother's illness and his own illness that occurred on July 8, 1915, surviving his mother by only 7 months.

Her work was collected and published after her death by her friend Aurelia Castello.
