Smoke
Smoke, released under the title Cigars in Latin America, is a 1995 American film directed by Wayne Wang. The writer Paul Auster, author of the script, was also co-director (although it is not stated as such in the credits).
The film had a sequel titled Blue in the Face, following some of the characters from the first and introducing some new ones.
Plot
The stories of a handful of solitary characters whose lives seem marked by chance unfold around a tobacconist: the writer Paul Benjamin (William Hurt), who tries to rebuild his life after the death of his wife because of a stray bullet in a robbery; the young Rashid Cole (Harold Perrineau), who tries to find his father, who abandoned him when he was just a child; Cyrus Cole (Forest Whitaker), who experiences the amputation of his left arm as a divine punishment; or shop assistant Auggie Wren (Harvey Keitel), who keeps some secrets in his past that he's not entirely proud of.
