A small property is a small tract of land in the hands of a single owner. The small property can be concentrated, by lease, in a single exploitation to form a latifundio.

It is not possible to determine at what moment the small property ends and where the large property begins, in such a way that the criterion is subject to the circumstances of the place, time and production are the only ways to establish a dividing line.

Small property has followers among economists, because it is assumed to be more favorable to population development, maintains a greater number of workers, and guarantees the order of civil society. Likewise, it also has detractors who see in it a more expensive production, more routine procedures and greater difficulty in the division of operations, among other things. Also the limits of hectares destined for each crop. see in the agrarian law in article 117.
