The flag of Slovakia is made up of three horizontal stripes of the same dimensions. The upper stripe is white, the central one is blue, and the lower one is dark red. In the central part of the flag, slightly displaced towards the edge closest to the mast, is the national coat of arms.

The original version of the flag, dating from 1848, lacked the emblem of the republic: a gothic shield on a red background with a double white cross (patriarchal) on three blue hills.

The national flag of Slovakia was adopted as the national flag of independent Slovakia on June 23, 1939, and was used until 1945. It did not become official again until March 1, 1990, although independence would not come until the year 1992.

As a curious fact, the first flag of Slovakia is identical to that of Poland and the second to that of Russia.
