Skating is a sport that consists of sliding on a regular surface using skates placed on the feet.

In 1733, the Dutchman Hoans Brinker built the first metallic roller skates, but he did not imagine that it would have the popularity it has today.

In 1857, two skating rinks were opened in Covent Garden and Strand, two very important areas in central London.

In 1876 the first skating center was opened in Paris as a fashionable sport.

In 1905 the Amateur Hockey Association was founded in England. In 1909 the sport began to be played in the county of Kent.

In 1924, representatives of Switzerland, France, Germany and Great Britain met, founding the Federation International Du patinage a roulette In 1946 the Spanish Hockey and Skating Federation was created and Spain debuted in international competitions in 1947 in Lisbon

Ice Skating

Outdoor ice skate in Austria.

Skates for figure skating have a blade at the bottom and the heel is made of wood.

Ice skating takes place on an ice surface, either natural or artificial. In the case of artificial surface, closed enclosures called pavilions or ice palaces are used that can have stands to host sports competitions of the various ice skating specialties. In recent years, the so-called "synthetic ice" rinks have become popular. A surface that you can skate on like any other, but that is not made of ice, but of polyethylene; a very resistant type of plastic. Since the arrival of synthetic ice (also called ecological ice) in the 1960s, its evolution has been spectacular, even reaching a 95% similarity with conventional ice. In addition, its use is proliferating in many domestic courts, where electricity consumption is an important factor to take into account. In this sense, the National Ice Skating Association of Great Britain, the British skating federation, approved, and recommends, these rinks for use. Among the advantages of synthetic ice rinks is the fact that their assembly and maintenance are very cheap, since they do not require electricity consumption, to which we should add that we are talking about a recyclable material.

Roller Skating

It takes place on surfaces other than the ground, generally asphalt, concrete, terrazzo or parquet which, in turn, may have a plastic tread layer, for which reason this sport becomes a truly difficult sport. Roller skating can be developed in specific places, such as tracks or circuits; or in non-specific places set aside for the occasion (as happens with streets and highways in long-distance events).

Roller skates can be of two types: the classic, also known as quad, which has four wheels placed in pairs on two axes; and the inline skate, which has a layout similar to that of ice skates; Replacing the blade with a guide that supports a variable number of wheels (between two and five) located one after the other, this sport can be practiced by both women and men.
