The Simone de Beauvoir footbridge (French:Passerelle Simone-de-Beauvoir) is the 37th bridge in the city of Paris over the River Seine. It is located between the Bercy and Tolbiac bridges and connects the 12th and 13th arrondissement of Paris. Initially and until its official inauguration in 2006, it was known as Paserelle Bercy-Tolbiac.

Features

The bridge connects the François Mitterrand library with the Bercy park. The design is by the architect Dietmar Feichtinger.

Manufactured at the Eiffel plant in Alsace, the central piece was transported through the canals of the North Sea, La Mancha and various rivers. Its final installation was completed in January 2006.

The walkway is a lenticular structure.

History

The project began in 2003 with the launch of an international architecture competition to define the design.

In 2005 Bertrand Delanoë, mayor of the city, proposed to name the work «passerelle Simone de Beauvoir». On July 13, 2006, the catwalk was inaugurated under that name.
