Juan Antonio Ipiña García (Bilbao, August 17, 1972), better known as Tontxu, is a Spanish singer-songwriter.
Biography
His first guitar was given to him by Moncho Borrajo, who was a friend of the family.
He has been the composer of his songs since he showed his mother the first one at the age of 11. At the age of 22 he moved to Madrid with more than 300 writings, today he has lost count of the number of works created, there are more than a thousand.
In 1990 he began working as a presenter at the 40 Principales station in Bilbao, where he spent five years. He later moved to Madrid, where he began to sing at Cafe Libertad 8. and in other cafes in the capital. In 1996 he signed with EMI Odeon, with whom he made his first albums: Sell (1997) —for which he was nominated as Newcomer at the Music Awards—, Corazón de mudanza (1998), With a song in the teeth (2000) and Basic (2001). This album closes the cycle with the company as a compilation that includes only two new songs: "Vuelvo" and "Chueca". Released from this company, in 2002 he signs with TOOL Music, with which he performs: Contact with reality (2004) and Vocal and consonant cords (2005).
In 2006 he returned to the radio to work on Onda Cero as a collaborator in the program Te doy mi palabra, directed and presented by Isabel Gemio
In March 2010 he made his first tour of Argentina. Surprised that there was a public that knew his previous seven albums, he returned in October of the same year to record an album accompanied only by his guitar, which will be titled Tontxu solo . Recorded at SOLO sound (recording) studio in El Calafate. An album that contains songs from his previous works, plus five unpublished songs. Recorded in front of the Perito Moreno Glacier, in Cuevas, on the shore of Lake Argentino.
He also visits Santiago de Chile for the second time, where he also enjoys a loyal audience that knew his steps during his 16-year career in Spain. Also in Mexico where he performs in various editions of TROVEFEST Garcias to the collaboration and friendship that unites him with "his carnal of him", the author from Querétaro, Edgar Oceransky.
On September 14, their first daughter, Leire Ipiña Herráiz, is born. The one who inherits the gift of composing and singing with an exquisite taste inappropriate for her age and at the age of 15 interprets in French (adapted by herself) in a sublime way the theme & # 34; It was only a kiss & # 34; on the album INVENTAL.
On February 25, 2015, he became a member of the Board of Directors of the SGAE, the International Affairs Commission, the Social Aid Commission for authors (APS) and in 2016 as Institutional Director of the SGAE Author Foundation.
On June 24, 2015, their second daughter, Carla Leonor Ipiña González, was born.
In 2016 he published his ninth album entitled Cicatrizando with the collaboration of author friends such as Laura Granados, Javier Ruibal, Carlos Chaouen, María Toledo and Road Ramos.
In 2018, their third child, Bosco Ipiña González, was born.
Her tenth studio album Tr3inta y tr3s comes out in March 2019, an album full of light with songs created in the inspiring and peaceful Sierra de Gata (Cáceres, Spain)
In July 2019, he was appointed Institutional Director of the SGAE FOUNDATION.
In 2021 he publishes INVENTAL, a revision and readaptation of his best-known songs, arranged this time by the author, producer and arranger Guantanamero (Cuba) Edgar Olivero. In it, he invites several friends to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of his career. Juanra Arnáiz, Joan Tena, Edgar Oceransky, Bebe, Edgar Olivero, Gustavo Almeida, PHOS, Arahí Martínez Carranza "LA Reina Blanca", Leire Ipiña and Luis Felipe Barrio. This album was dedicated to the memory of his friend Rafael Berrio, and his colleagues Pau Donés (Jarabe de Palo) and Luis Eduardo Aute. Disc carefully elaborated during a year and a half, each of its members locked up in their homes and working from their respective "HOME STUDIO"
The album receives never-before-received praise from critics.
