Sigma 6 (band)
Sigma 6 was a rhythm and blues band formed in 1964 by Roger Waters while he was studying architecture at Cambridge and which gave rise to Pink Floyd.
The initial members of the band were:
- Roger Waters - solo guitar
- Nick Mason - Battery
- Richard Wright - rhythmic guitar
- Clive Metcalfe - low
- Keith Noble - solo voice
- Sheila Noble - choirs
- Chris Dennis - solo voice
The band later changed their name to "The Abdabs", performing at pubs and private parties as "The Screaming Abdabs" and opting for the variant "The Architectural Abdabs", for the few but effective shows inside Regent Street Polytechnic, where most of the members studied architecture.....
Being "The Abdabs", the line-up changed slightly:
- Roger Waters - solo guitar, bass
- Nick Mason - Battery
- Richard Wright - piano, trombone, occasionally rhythmic guitar
- Vernon Thompson - solo guitar - guest musician
- Clive Metcalfe - bass, rhythmic guitar
- Keith Noble - solo voice
- Juliette Gale - solo voice
- Chris Dennis - solo voice
By mid-1964, never achieving stability, the band dissolved with the departure of Metcalf, Noble, Gale and Dennis.
Shortly after the disbandment, Waters, Wright and Mason along with Syd Barrett and Bob Klose joined to form several bands in the run-up to Pink Floyd.
