Shukan Shōnen Magazine
Shūkan Shōnen Magazine (週刊少年マガジン< /span>Shūkan Shōnen Magajin?, lit. Weekly Youth Magazine) is a Japanese weekly magazine, being one of the most widely read manga magazines in Japan.. This magazine sells at the rate of about 4 million copies every week, second only to Shūkan Shōnen Jump in the manga magazine market.
History
Published by Kodansha, first published March 17, 1959. Initially priced at ¥40 on Thursday sale. Many works were originally published in it and were later very successful in the tankōbon format (200-page volumes). It is geared towards adolescent males (shōnen).
On May 20, 2002, there was a scandalous incident that sub-editor is arrested for possession of cannabis. "Magazine" happened in times of weakness a collapse in the number of copies in the last year, August would have once again occupied the first positions to "Jump". In July 2004, it cost 240 yen, and had about 400-500 pages.
In 2007 the circulation is less than 200 million copies. In the year 2008 to carry out a variety of planning with a commemorative 50th anniversary, it showed unusual collaboration in cooperation with "Shūkan Shōnen Sunday" from the rival magazine.
Today, despite some unusual censorship policies (until recently, it was one of the few shōnen magazines to ban depiction of female nipples), it has been read primarily by an older audience, with a large portion of your readers being under the male high school or college student demographic. Around this time a new genre calm sports cartoon series is a great variety.

Reception
Shūkan Shōnen Magazine achieved success in the 1970s and subsequently saw increased sales. As a result, it became the best-selling manga magazine in Japan of its period, appearing popular among many otaku. Its first edition of 1959 achieved a total of 205,000 copies.
But the position was later occupied by Weekly Shonen Jump, when this competitor was born in 1968, knocking Shōnen Magazine out of the top position. Shonen Jump had now begun to circulate and dominate the manga magazine market.
This started from the 1970s and continued through the 1990s, largely due to Akira Toriyama's hit manga, Dragon Ball. In the mid-1990s, Shonen Jump suffered the loss of Dragon Ball, as the franchise had come to an end in 1996, and thus lost much of its readership. Despite this, sales were 4.36 million copies for 1995.
Shōnen Magazine had now made a comeback in October 1997, regaining its original position as the best-selling manga magazine of its day until this was negotiated in 2002. For January–June 2008 it had sales of 1,755,000 copies sold; in 2010 with 1,571,231 copies; in 2012 with 1,447,500; in 2014 with 1,277,500 copies.
Today, the two magazines have competed closely in terms of market circulation. The sales of the two magazines are now very close. Circulation has fallen below two million. Specifically in 2015 the copies sold were 1,156,059
In a rare event due to the close founding dates of both Weekly Shonen Magazine and Weekly Shonen Sunday unveiled a combined issue special on March 19, 2008. Additionally, other commemorative events, merchandise, and manga crossovers were planned for the following year as part of the celebrations.
