The shintaido is an art of body movement that comes from research on martial arts and contemporary visual arts and dances, developed by Hiroyuki Aoki in the 1960s, under the tutelage of Shigeru Egami.

Description

As a fighting method, although it has movements derived from Karate or Kendo, it would fit within the so-called "internal styles" such as Tai Chi Chuan or Aikido: its instructors claim to be based on Qì or internal energy and to be able to repel an opponent's attack without touching it, anticipate their movement intentions and even stop them with their will, internal energy or shouting (Kiai). It is a system that includes many elements of Eastern spirituality, such as Qì, and Japanese (Shintoism).
