The Shemsu Hor (Sms Hr) were "followers of Horus". The concept evolved over time: a series of mythical kings who ruled Egypt before the pharaohs, those who helped Horus in his fights with Seth, and the priests who dealt with them have also been called that name. the funeral rites.

Demigods

According to the Royal Canon of Turin, the Sms Hr ruled Egypt for six thousand years, between the reign of the gods and the first pharaohs.

Manetho, Egyptian historian of the III century century a. C. who was commissioned by Pharaoh Ptolemy II Philadelphus to write the History of Egypt and who had access to the library of the temple of Ra in Heliopolis (where he was a priest), assured that they ruled Egypt around 6,000 years, just after the "demigods and kings" of earlier times. Before the latter, the "gods" had ruled the country. The only thing that remains of the Aegyptíaka has come down to us through Eusebius of Caesarea. After the gods, heroes reigned for 1,255 years, followed by kings who ruled for 1,817 years. Later, 30 kings of Memphis ruled, whose reigns totaled 1,790 years. They were succeeded by ten kings of Tis for 350 years, and after these came the Shemsu Hor, who reigned for 5,813 years. After them came the first dynastic king, Menes, who ruled the Nile Valley from 3100 B.C. C.

According to Jacqueline Moreira of the University of São Paulo, the Shemsu Hor could be represented on the Narmer Palette, which she says suggests that the palette is much older than Narmer, from a period when Egypt was heavily influenced by the cult of Horus:

Our other assumption is that the Pharaoh and his companions are the ones that the Egyptian tradition places in a remote time of their civilization, the Shemsu Hor who played an important role in the configuration of the country as the united Empire... in the Palette would be well represented the Shemsu Hor in three distinct groups: a non-human group, whose components accompanied Horus and have a key role in the journey of the dead, a second group
