The Emirate of Shammar or Jebel Shammar was an emirate in the northern Arabian peninsula ruled by the Al-Rashid dynasty. The country suffered from the Egyptian expedition in 1819 and was conquered by the Saudis in 1921. El Nafud, the most north-western region, was occupied by the Saudis in 1922. The state capital was Ha'il.

The flag of the Emirate was adopted in 1819 in imitation of the Ottoman flag. The sun was the symbol of the Nusairite Muslims and the Ibn Rashid had red as their clan or tribal color.
