Sesame (TV series)
Sesame Street / "Sesame Street" (also known as Sesame) is the Latin American version of the American children's show Sesame Street. This becomes the most popular educational series of all time, the series began to be broadcast on television for the first time in 1972 on channel 5 of Televisa de México.
Co-produced by Children's Television Workshop (CTW) and several Latin American broadcasters with a multinational cast, it was later co-produced entirely by CTW and the aforementioned Mexican television network. Previously the program was produced by Sesame Workshop (formerly CTW) and Televisa. (until 2013)
Sesame Street can be seen on more than 38 public channels in Mexico. In addition, the program can be seen throughout Latin America.
Season 9 was released in 2005 after four years without new episodes, and seasons 10 and 11 premiered in 2006 and 2008 respectively. New seasons of the show are produced intermittently and since 2016 season 16 has been airing.
The program follows the same format as Sesame Street and shares a large number of scenes with that program dubbed into Spanish; but there are also a large number of own and unique scenes from the show, especially those that contain live actors, as well as own characters such as Pancho, Lola and Abelardo, who is Big Bird's cousin.
Sesame is estimated to reach 84% of Spanish-speaking households in the United States. In Mexico, 72% of mothers have seen the children's series, and 98% of them want to expose their children to the series.
In addition, Sesame offers a new series on Netflix called “The Furchester Hotel”, a great selection on YouTube, and various educational content through different TV channels (public and private), networks social networks, websites, apps, books, DVDs and online games.
Characters
Sesame Street features a human cast and a cast of puppets known as muppets. The human cast is almost entirely typical of the series. Although the series shares many of the muppets with the English-speaking Sesame street, there are some original muppets unique to this series.
The characters (muppets) exclusive to Sesame Street are:
- Abelardo (Plaza Sésamo): always sees the positive side of things, cares for others and treats everyone so kindly that there is always someone who embraces him, sings or skates with him, He was called Serapio Montoya', the cousin of Big Bird of the original Sesame Street, with green and red feathers and a yellow beak like that of a parrot. Interpreted by Alberto Estrella (1981-1992) and Jorge Hector Marquez Loeza (2004-presente) In 1992 his name was changed by Abelardo Montoya. Along with his name, he also changed the tone of voice, from chilling to a lower tone.
- Francisco "Pancho" Contreras: is hairy and blue with light yellow eyes and brown eyebrows. Enjoy being different. Pancho loves onions. It's a bit of rarity because he's always right. However he is noble and very good friend. It was interpreted by Odin Dupeyron (1995-2009), ly uego by Alfonso Soto (2010-present).
- Lola: it is hairy, pink and with a fringe of orange feathers. He loves riddles, rhymes, songs and adventures. It is very extroverted, bold and very joyful, always willing to try everything.
- Elephant: Pancho's elephant pet. It's only his horn is seen. Interpreted by Marcia Coutiño.
- Horns: a red monster with a characteristic pair of sharp horns and teeth. Horns is actually a multi-monster, that is a puppet that changes its facial features to represent several monsters. There is also a multihuman equivalent. "Poco Loco" is one of the characters of this multihuman.
- Rosita: a turquoise female monster; the first character to make a crossover since he later joined, together with his executor, Carmen Osbahr, the cast of Sesame Street.
- Elmo: a hairy, red monster that loves playing with friends, cycling and eating healthy. Elmo has a contagious and fun laugh. He's always willing to do something new. Interpreted in Chile and for the rest of Latin America (except Mexico) by Santi Ponce Fiori.
During the period from 1972 to 1981, the main characters were:
- Abelardo the Dragon: a 2.5-metre-high dragon with yellow feathers. His way of talking had a characteristic jade. His execution and voice was made by Justo Martínez.
- Paco: a perico gruñón that normally appeared from the window of his apartment, and that had the same behavior characteristics as the Oscar de Sesame Street. Including that their predilect dish were sardines with honey. Normally, it was interpreted by Abelardo himself. Abelardo and Paco went through a redesign during the season 1 and 2.
During the period from 1981 to 1995, the new main characters were:
- Bodoque: It was a grouchquetero or grumpy monster that lives in empty boxes or fruit boxes.
