Sergi lopez

Sergi López Ayats (Villanueva y Geltrú, Barcelona, December 22, 1965) is a Spanish actor. He has participated in renowned films such as Only mine , Black bread or Pan's Labyrinth .

Biography

He took his first steps as an actor in amateur theater, after leaving school at the age of sixteen. He studied acting at the École internationale de théâtre et mouvement , in Paris.

He had a late initiation into the world of cinema. It was in 1991 when he decided to appear in France for his first casting, to work on the film, La Petite amie d'Antoni, by director Manuel Poirier, his discoverer for the cinema and with whom he already He has shot nine movies. Others would come later, such as Western, which won the jury prize at the Cannes film festival in 1997. It has been in France where he has developed most of his career, obtaining great international recognition, which won him, in 2000, the award for best European actor for his performance in Harry, a friend who loves you.

In 1997, already at the age of 32, he shot his first film in Catalan (Caricies, by Ventura Pons), which was also translated into Spanish and broadcast in the rest of Spain. Since then she has alternated works in both languages.

His next foray into Spanish cinema was with Javier Bardem and Victoria Abril in Entre las legas, and in Lisboa, together with Carmen Maura and the Argentine actor Federico Luppi.

After the international success of Harry, A Friend Who Loves You, it was followed by A Private Relationship in Venice, The Open Sky, Sólo mía, a highly acclaimed film about gender violence in which she starred alongside Paz Vega, and the multi-award-winning Pan's Labyrinth, by Guillermo del Toro, where her interpretation of the villain Vidal made him a creditor of various awards.

2008 has been one of his most productive years, participating in six films. The most recent, Map of the sounds of Tokyo, by Isabel Coixet, premiered at Cannes in 2009.

In theater he created, together with his fellow student at the École Jacques Lecoq in Paris, Jorge Picó, the show Non Solum, which was awarded the Max Award for best playwright in Catalan in 2010. Their latest creation together has been 30/40 Livingstone.

Politically, he declared his support for the left-wing Catalan independence movement, publicly supporting the CUP in the face of the elections to the Parliament of Catalonia on November 25, 2012. In the Catalan elections on September 27, 2015 also asked for the vote for the independence formation.
