Sergi Belbel Coslado (Tarrasa, May 29, 1963) is a Spanish dramatist, director and translator.

Biography

Graduated in Romanesque and French Philology from the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 1986. He was a founding member of the Theater Classroom of the Autonomous University of Barcelona. In 1985 he received the Marqués de Bradomín Award for Today's Kaleidoscopes and Lighthouses , which premiered the following year. From that moment on, the premieres have followed one another, and Belbel has become one of the strongest young values in the country.

His theatrical activity extends to the field of directing, and since 1988 he has been a professor of Dramaturgy at the Barcelona Theater Institute.

In 1996 he obtained the National Prize for Literature in the category of Dramatic Literature and in 2005 he was appointed director of the National Theater of Catalonia, a position he resigned in 2013.

He has directed works by classic and contemporary authors, including Shakespeare, Calderón, Molière, Goldoni, Beckett, Koltés, Mamet and De Filippo.

He has written about twenty plays, including Kaleidoscopes and Lighthouses Today, After the Rain, Elsa Shneider, Talem, Caress and The Blood. She has obtained, among other awards, the Marqués de Bradomín Award (1985), the Ignasi Iglesias National Award (1987). Several of her works have been made into movies by director Ventura Pons.

Apart from individual episodes of other television series, he wrote Nissaga l'herència for TV3. In 2011, he participated in the script for the film Eva , a script for which he is a Goya candidate.

In 2014, he directed the scripts for the series Sin identidad for Atresmedia.
