Scribneria is a monotypic genus of herbaceous plants belonging to the Poaceae family. Its only species: Scribneria bolanderi (Thurb.) Hack., is native to the western United States.

It is the only member of the subtribe Scribneriinae.

Description

It is an annual tussock plant with 7-30 cm tall stems; herbaceous Culm-internodes hollow with basal leaves not aggregated; not earphones. The leaf blades are linear; narrow; about 0.8-1.6 mm wide, nearly threadlike; rolled up; without venation; persistent. Ligule an untruncated membrane (acuminate, becoming lacerated); 1.5-4 mm long. Contra-ligula absent. Bisexual plants, with bisexual spikelets; with hermaphrodite flowers. Inflorescence a single spike (thin), or a single raceme (with short peduncles), or paniculate (rarely, with two spikes per node, on different pedicels or on a single branched peduncle). Hollowed rachis.

Scribneria bolanderi was described by (Thurb.) Hack. and published in Botanical Gazette 11(5): 105. 1886.

Etymology

The generic name was given in honor of Frank Lamson Scribner, an American botanist and plant pathologist.
