Argument
No Vacancy, a rock band, performs at a nightclub. Guitarist Dewey Finn creates stage antics, including a stage dive that abruptly ends the performance. The next morning, Dewey wakes up in the apartment where he lives with Ned Schneebly and his girlfriend, Patty Di Marco. They inform him that he must make up his share of the rent or move out. When Dewey meets No Vacancy at a rehearsal session, he discovers that he has been replaced by another guitarist, named Spider. Later, while trying to sell some of his equipment to raise money, Dewey answers a phone call from Rosalie Mullins, the principal of an elementary school, asking about Ned about a short-term position as a substitute teacher. Desperate for money, Dewey poses as Ned and is hired. On his first day at school, Dewey adopts the name 'Mr. Yes" and spends his first day behaving erratically, much to the confusion of the class.
The next day, Dewey listens to a music class coming from one of the school's classrooms. Intrigued, he decides to follow the sound until he finds the place. From a classroom door window, he discovers that several of his students are actually talented musicians, even though they don't play rock. At that moment, Dewey devises a new plan: form a new rock band to audition for Battle of the Bands. He recruits Zack Mooneyham as lead guitarist, Freddy Jones as drummer, cellist Katie on bass, Lawrence on keyboard and himself as vocalist and lead guitarist. He assigns the rest of the class to various roles of backup singers, groupies, roadies, with Summer Hathaway as the band's manager. The project resumes normal lessons, but helps students embrace their talents and overcome their problems. He meets Lawrence, a boy who feels nerdy, and is worried about not being 'cool' enough. for the band. He also loves Zack, whose strict father disapproves of rock music, and Tomika, an overweight girl who is too shy to audition as a singer, even though she has an incredible voice. During an eloquent lesson, he teaches the children that rock and roll, more than a musical taste, is a way of approaching life through music. The "groupies" Michelle and Eleni, with Summer's approval, launch the band name "The School of Rock".
Two weeks after his hiring, Dewey sneaks out of school with key band members to audition for a spot in the competition, while the rest of the class stays behind to maintain the alibi. When Freddy leaves, Dewey takes him back, but the group is turned away because the bill is full. After Summer tricks the staff into thinking she is terminally ill, the band manages to audition. The next day, Mullins decides to check on Dewey's teaching progress, forcing Dewey to teach the real material. Mullins explains that parents' night will take place at the school the day before the Battle of the Bands, which makes Dewey a little worried.
As Dewey prepares for parents' night, Ned receives a check from the school in the mail, and soon realizes that Dewey impersonated him. During the parents' meeting, the same bewildered parents wonder what Dewey has taught the children, after seeing that their children spend their time talking about music and rock, and that some even want to be musicians when they grow up. Until Ned, Patty and the police confronted Dewey. With Mullins barging in to ask what is going on, Dewey - resigned - reveals his true identity, admits that he is not a licensed teacher, that his purpose was to form a rock band to make money, but in turn exhorts the parents to May they feel proud of their children since they have shown to have impressive talent. That's when Dewey flees to his apartment. He and Patty argue and Ned intervenes, however, Ned suggests that Dewey move out.
The next morning, the parents rage in front of Mullins in his office, while the children, despite knowing the sad reality, decide not to let their hard work go to waste. When the new surrogate discovers that the children are missing, he informs Mullins, and she and her parents go in search of them. A school bus comes to pick up Dewey, who takes the kids to the Battle of the Bands and decides that they play the song written by Zack earlier. Initially dismissed as a gimmick, the band wins over the entire crowd. To Dewey's dismay, No Vacancy wins, but the audience sings for School of Rock and demands an encore.
Some time later an after-school program known as the School of Rock has opened, as Dewey continues to train the students he was with before, while Ned teaches the beginners, as the credits roll.

In a couple of weeks we have to decide whether to go ahead with the project or not. Variety reported on July 13, 2008 that Richard Linklater would direct again, and that Scott Rudin would produce. Mike White, who wrote the first, is writing the script, titled < i>School of Rock 2: America Rocks, which begins with Finn leading a group of summer school students on a field trip that delves into the history of rock 'n' roll, and explores the roots of blues, rap, SFDK, country and other genres. On June 16, 2009, while promoting his new film, Year One, Black commented on the film's development: "Yes, there is development." We'll see. I don't know. I'm a little hesitant about doing a part two. I had a lot of fun doing the first one, I just don't want to do something because it's there. I want to do it because it's going to be very fun or better than the first one.
