Save the Children Fund, commonly known as Save the Children or Save the Children International (Save the Children i>) is an international non-governmental organization (NGO) whose purpose is to work for the rights of children.

History

It was founded in 1919 by Eglantyne Jebb to help the millions of refugee and displaced children scattered across Europe after World War I.

Eglantyne Jebb drew up the first Declaration of the Rights of the Child, known as the Geneva Declaration, approved by the League of Nations in 1924, which is the immediate historical antecedent to the current Convention on the Rights of the Child, ratified by Nations United in 1989.

Shortly after Save The Children was founded in London (1919), associations were created in other countries, such as Sweden, Australia and Canada.

Currently

In 2020, Save the Children International is present in 130 countries where it develops programs related to child health, nutrition, emergency care, violence, educational quality, governance of children's rights, trafficking, child labor exploitation and HIV/AIDS, among others.[citation required]
