Santiago Zacatepec, nestled in the northern sierra, the municipality is a town located approximately 327 km from the city of Oaxaca, (Mexico).

It has some majestic landscapes, from cloudy to appearing a white sea between mountains. Many times the cloud is very dense and it is difficult to distinguish objects at less than five meters, however, this also makes the vegetation abundant, as well as its waters. It also shows impressive sunrises and sunsets many times. Its streams on the way to the community are very beautiful, beginning on the land of Santa María Yacochi, Santa María Huitepec, Santa María Ocotepec and the same land in Zacatepec.

At the time of the discovery of the area by the Spanish, the area was subjugated by the Lord of Tototépec (Yucudzaa in Mixtec), who in addition to resisting the expansion of the Mexicas, it was expanding to the east and north. Zacatepec or Yucuchatuta was one of the tributary communities and subject to Tototépec.

It was entrusted to the conquistador Rafael de Trejo, who inherited it from his son of the same name. Around 1534 the corregimiento passed into the hands of Justlaguaca.

The wind bands in said community attend the parties, which have been invited by the organizers of the event. It's like bartering, only in this case of music. Without a doubt, Zacatepec Mixe Oaxaca has a wind band, perhaps the best that this country has. Some perfected notes that no other band has done. This band was founded around 1880 and to date it is maintained and we can affirm that it is the oldest music band that exists in Mexico, not only in Oaxaca.
