Santa Catarina (Nuevo Leon)
Santa Catarina, whose full name is Ciudad Santa Catarina, is a Mexican city located in the state of Nuevo León, head of the municipality of Santa Catarina. It is part of the Monterrey Metropolitan Area.
Santa Catarina takes its name in honor of the Catholic Saint Catherine of Alexandria. She patroness of philosophers, students, teachers and preachers. It is located 9 km west of Monterrey, within the coordinates: north 25º45', south 25° 25'; north latitude; 100° 43' west and east 100º 14' west longitude at a height of 680 meters above sea level.
History
The name of the municipality comes from the Catholic Saint Catherine of Alexandria. Santa Catarina dates back to 1577, when Alberto del Canto left a ranch, whose main purpose was to serve as a resting place between trips from Monterrey to Saltillo. Protected by the Courts of Cádiz, in 1820 it began to have its first council headed by Joaquín García, called Valle de Santa Catarina and since 1861 it was called a town. On November 20, 1977, it was elevated to the category of city.
The founder of Monterrey, Diego de Montemayor, granted Captain Lucas García ownership of the waters and lands. The date of this event was November 20, 1596 and the area was renamed Hacienda de Santa Catalina. Over time, the pronunciation was Americanized, from being Santa Catalina to Santa Catarina.
Demographics
According to the 2020 population census of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), there are a total of 304,052 inhabitants in Santa Catarina, 151,417 men and 152,635 women.

According to the 2020 population census, in Santa Catarina there are a total of 89,573 private homes, of these 82,189 are inhabited, 7,384 are uninhabited, 81,375 have electricity, 81,265 have a bathroom, and 81,223 have drainage.

Santa Catarina is situated within the municipality of Santa Catarina, in the west of the state of Nuevo León. It is located at the coordinates 25°40′28″N 100°27′42″W / 25.67444, -100.46167, at an average height of 675 meters above the level of the sea.
Climate
Santa Catarina has a semi-dry climate. It has an average annual temperature of 21.1 °C and an annual rainfall of 400.6 cubic millimeters.

Education
Santa Catarina has 165 preschool schools, 23 from the federal system, 10 from the state and 6 private schools. Primary 69, 21 state and 5 private. There are 22 secondary schools including the federal one.
Economic activities
Supply
It has three large convenience shopping centers, a supply center and a market on wheels that supply the needs of the population.
Media
It has a monthly tabloid newspaper called El Santacatarinense, Interview magazine, and La Voz del Poniente.
Industry
It is the main activity of the municipality and is located within the urban area with lines of production of waterproofing, paints, climates, ceramics, chemical products, iron and aluminum foundries, plastic injectors, transformers, agricultural implements, which give a total of 300 industries. There are also two Pemex plants.
Trade
The municipality has three large convenience stores and clothing, furniture, hardware, and construction materials stores are distributed throughout the urban area.
Culture
Historical monuments
Register in the I.N.A.H. 13th century buildings XIX. The Santa Catarina Mártir temple in the municipal area, the San Vicente de Paul temple and the La Fama textile factory in Nuevo León. There are tombs of two industry pioneers Roberto Law and Ezequiel Steele in the San Juan pantheon in the municipal capital. Also the Castle of Culture in Loma de la Cruz and the monument to the liberator General Francisco Morazán built in 1944 on the almost ruins of the chapel dedicated to the Virgin of Guadalupe.
Museums
The House of Culture Efraín Días de la Garza in La Fama and the Castle is contemplated in the municipal area with temporary exhibitions. It is an old construction dating from 1870, El Blanqueo, in La Fama, where a Board of Trustees was formed.

Gastronomy
Their typical food is kid in different modalities, machacado, roast meat, beans a la charra. Round Turkish was made with coconut and walnut raisins with a goat's milk dulce from the late Lactina.
