Sandy & Junior
Sandy & Junior was a Brazilian duo of young singers made up of brothers Sandy Leah Lima (born January 28, 1983) and Durval de Lima Júnior. (April 11, 1984). Their discography includes 17 productions, with which they reached the mark of 15 million records sold in Brazil.
They are the sons of Xororó (from the sertaneja music duo Chitãozinho e Xororó) and Noely. During their career they also participated in film and television productions, highlighting a series with their name that was on the air for three years.
In 2007 they ended their career as a duo after 17 years together.
Career
Since birth, these brothers had a passion for music. Before even thinking about walking, Sandy would make a sound that made her grandmother Mariazinha (of the duo Zé-do-Rancho & amp; Mariazinha) predict on many occasions that her granddaughter would be a singer. Junior, at two years old, got a plastic violin. Shortly after, his father's drummer (Xororó, from the duo Chitãozinho & amp; Xororó) gave him a pair of drumsticks. To prevent him from breaking more objects, his parents sent to buy him a battery, when he was 3 years old. The "home shows" they were not enough for these children. Sandy asked to be in the place of Amanda, the youngest member of the children's group Trem da Alegria. Junior, dressed as a clown, sometimes appeared in the circus of family friends. At the end of 1989, everything changed. In a special participation in the program Som Brasil, the presenter Lima Duarte asked Chitãozinho & He Xororó if someone from his family sang. Chitãozinho said that his brother's children sang, so the children were called on the next program to perform. Junior came to make a "demand" to introduce himself: he demanded a trophy. Without rehearsals, the brothers sang and enchanted all of Brazil with the song "Maria Chiquinha" ("pigtails" in Portuguese). The song began to play on the radio and they signed a 3-disc contract with the Polygram label.
The first album, Aniversário Do Tatu, sold 300 thousand copies and had the participation of Xororó in the song Casamento Natural, thus obtaining their first gold record. In 1991, they made their 1.er show for the Nova Vida Community, in Votuporanga, São Paulo. The first memorable presentation was in Parque da Geleira, Minas Gerais. That same year, they opened for a concert by Chitãozinho & Xororó in Miami and included the songs Brincar De Ser Feliz, which was a hit by the sertanejo duo.
In 1992, they recorded Sábado à Noite, with the participation of Chitãozinho & Xororó in Vamos Construir and that of Ney Matogrosso in the song O Vira. The album cover photos were taken in Nashville, United States, where they also recorded their first video clip, Sábado à Noite. Promoting that CD, they performed at a party in Jaguariúna, the same day that TV Manchete would record a part of the Chitãozinho & Xororó to pass it on in the soap opera Ana Raio e Zé Trovão. The production was so fascinated with the children that he recorded their presentation and also passed it on in the soap opera. At the end of the year, Sandy participated in Xuxa's Christmas special singing América Geral.
The 3.er album, Tô Ligado Em Você, left behind its backcountry roots to welcome the pop-romance genre. After the release, they participated in Michael Jackson's concerts in Brazil, translating the music into the language of the deaf. Junior showed up on the 1.er day and Sandy on the 2nd. At that time, it was rumored that the children would drop out of school and study to dedicate themselves exclusively to a musical career, which was denied in the Domingão do Faustão program. They closed the year with the special Roberto Carlos, which that year was about Jovem Guarda. Since they had re-recorded the hit Splish Splash, the invitation fit like a glove. They also included their song Coça-Coça on the TV Colosso children's album, and they also recorded the Christmas song Silent Night in Portuguese. At that time, they were victims of a Hidden Camera prank, in a program called Topa Tudo Por Dinheiro, in which everything they wanted to try in a sports store was spoiled.
In 1994 rumors of a separation began. The brothers were growing up, it was not long before they entered adolescence. It was said a lot that they could not maintain the success like some old children's bands such as Balão Mágico and Trem da Alegria. However, they renewed their contract and recorded Pra Dançar Com Você, which featured a more modern logo with the duo's name on the cover, as well as having 9 re-recordings of Jovem Guarda. The album also had the song Criança Esperança, the theme of the homonymous special of that year. At the end of the year, they participated in Xuxa's Christmas space singing the song Coração and got a special on TV Manchete, which showed part of their concert. They also recorded the song Coração Do Brasil together with Chitãozinho & Xororó and Tonico & Tinoco, in homage to the 50 years of the last.
Contrary to expectations, each time Sandy and Junior sold more and more. The 5th album, Você É D+, featured the special participation of Xuxa in Rap Do Aniversário. The Sonho Real tour, based on the CD, was released in VHS format. That same year, they recorded the song Voa Vovô for the soundtrack of the film Menino Maluquinho.
In 1996, they released Dig-Dig-Joy. In the photos, these siblings looked less childish. Junior for the first time appeared without his typical mullet cut and Sandy with more adolescent clothes. The CD also showed a subtle change as it had more romantic and contries music than the previous ones, in addition to the song Quero Saber, the theme of the Criança Esperança of that year. They also recorded the song Xote das Meninas for the CD Forró Irado - O Melhor Do Forró Pé-De-Serra.
Continuing with the puberty period of these brothers, in 1997 they recorded Sonho Azul, which after its release got a bonus Track that he made and another version of the CD had to be released. Era Uma Vez... was recorded to be the theme of the novel of the same name and was very successful. It had the participation of Toquinho, who released the music on his CD Toquinho No Mundo Da Criança. That same year, they participated in the film O Noviço Rebelde with Renato Aragão, Tony Ramos and Patrícia Pillar. They also worked for the first time as animators for their own TV show: Sandy & Junior Show on TV Manchete that received weekly guests who were interviewed and sang. The program had a very short life, because the duo's contract with the station ended less than a year later and since there were indications that it would go off the air, they did not renew their contract. At the end of the year they recorded 4 Christmas songs for the CD Natal Em Família, by Chitãozinho & Xororó, which also included the participation of Fábio Junior, Roberta Miranda, Maurício & Mauri and Rick & Renner.
At the age of 14, Sandy was chosen among several Brazilian singers to record the Portuguese version of the song VIVO PER LEI (I Live for Her) alongside the Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli, who chose her after hearing her voice and qualifying her as the most beautiful in Brazil. It was the first time that she participated in a project without Júnior, and the rumors of separation returned. Once again the rumor had to be denied, and the song obtained a video clip and was part of the soundtrack of the soap opera Corpo Dourado.
Later, they released their first live album, Era Uma Vez... Recorded in Olympya, São Paulo, it was also released on VHS and was number one in their country, selling more than 1'000,000 copies. Later, it was released on DVD. In the repertoire they had many songs that were part of the Eu Acho Que Pirei tour and 4 unpublished songs, 3 of which were recorded in the studio. One of them was Em Cada Sonho, a Portuguese version of My Heart Will Go On (which was on the CD, sung live), a theme from the movie Titanic, originally recorded by Céline Dion, who only authorized the duo to re-record that hit.. Junior participated for the first time as an instrumentalist on the album, playing guitar on the last live track, Eu Acho Que Pirei.
Since it was the year of the World Cup, the duo was invited to participate in a show in Paris singing the song Novo Tempo, by Ivan Lins. The invitations did not end there. Sandy was called to sing Águas de Março in a special Som Brasil by Elis Regina. As the only men who would sing would be the widower and the son of the deceased singer, Junior was not invited, thus returning the rumors and gossip about separation. In that same year Sandy is chosen to record the Portuguese version of the song "Reflection " titled in Portuguese Imagem as part of the soundtrack of the Disney film Mulan.
At the end of the year, TV Globo aired an end-of-year special, which was actually a pilot episode of a series that they planned to record the following year and would bear the duo's name. As it was a success, the official program was launched on April 11, 1999 and it continued every Sunday, showing the day-to-day life of the characters from the fictitious Mario de Andrade Education Center, better known as CEMA, and it became the most popular series. viewed and successful on television.
In October of that year, they released the CD As Quatro Estações, the first of many water splitters in the duo's career. The album sold more than 2 million copies and for the first time featured songs written by Sandy, which secured the hits As Quatro Estações and Olha O Que O Amor Me Faz. The latter was included in the soundtrack of the most successful Brazilian soap opera of recent times, EL CLAVEL Y LA ROSA, and it was not the only one. Malia, recorded in Italian especially for the occasion, was a success of the soap opera Terra Nostra. Undoubtedly, the greatest hit on the CD was Vãmo Pulá. All Brazilians knew "saltitante" chorus.
Early the following year, Sandy & Júnior were invited to record with Enrique Iglesias the song You're My # 1 in an English/Portuguese version, of which a video clip was also recorded. The music was a complete success and there was much talk about a possible romance between Sandy and the Spanish singer. Quatro Estações, the "son" of the CD, was a mainstay in the duo's career. For the first time it was not under the direction of Noely, and Flávia Moraes did an incredible and perfect job that came to be awarded as the best show in various awards. As the name said, they were reproduced every season of the year. In spring, special teams emanated flower essences around the show venue, in summer, the temperature rose a little, contrary to what happened in winter, when the public felt cold. In autumn, rose petals fell near the stage. The musical repertoire was also innovating with Sandy singing Fascinação, by Elis Regina and As Bachianas No 5, by Villa Lobos. That last music was replaced by Man, I Feel Like A Woman, by Shania Twain, in open shows. Junior played more and more instruments. On this tour, he played guitar, drums and, on Santana's Smooth, played percussion as well. The hit show became a CD bestseller, with over 3 million copies sold and also released on VHS and DVD. On CD it included 3 studio tracks and the video clip for A Lenda premiered on Fantástico after a vote beating the Beatles themselves. At the end of the year, they recorded with Gilberto Gil and Milton Nascimento the music Duas Sanfonas, for the album Gil & Milton.
2001 was one of the most eventful years for this duo. On January 18, they performed at the POP night of the third edition of the Rock In Rio festival, presenting the best show of the night, chosen by an audience of approximately 250,000 people. The next day, Sandy began recording the soap opera Estrela-Guía, in which she was the protagonist. Her character, Cristal, was a girl raised in a hippie community who, after the death of her parents (played by Maitê Proença and Marcos Winter), went to live in Rio de Janeiro with her godfather (played by Guilherme Fontes)., with whom he has a turbulent love affair due to age differences. Junior also participated, playing Zeca, a poor street kid who worked as a juggler. In the soap opera's soundtrack, songs like Enrosca, from the CD Quatro Estações - O Show, could be heard. The novel was a great success in the 6 o'clock slot and the recordings lasted until June. Mending a job at the other, the brothers spent the month of July in Los Angeles this time recording 2 CDs at the same time, one of which was English only. In October, Sandy e Junior was released, the duo's 11.er CD. The name was going to be 11, but it was changed immediately after the 9/11 attacks. A million copies were sold in the first 3 days, giving the famous duo a well-deserved Diamond Record and, consequently, an invitation to the ARQUIVO CONFIDENCIAL section of the Domingão do Faustão program. To end the year with a flourish, they recorded a Christmas special in the city of João Pessoa, in a show that brought together more than one and a half million people. Taking advantage of the success of the soap opera and the series, Sandy was invited to participate in a second soap opera about the life of Elis Regina, however she rejected the invitation to dedicate herself exclusively to music.
On May 7, 2002, the video clip Love Never Fails premiered at Fantástico, kicking off his international career. Then the album Internacional was released in Brazil, which was also released in other countries in other languages and under other names. In Latin America and Spain it was launched under the name of SANDY & JÚNIOR, which in addition to having songs in English and Portuguese, included 5 tracks in Spanish: Love Will Not Fail, Convince the Heart, Very Close to You, So Within You, and La Leyenda. During that year, they spent a lot of time abroad, making Brazilian fans jealous and leaving them without enough time to dedicate themselves to the global series, which that year was in a new phase, outside of school. To reward the Brazilians, they performed at the Maracanã on October 12, being the first Brazilian artists to do a solo show at the famous stadium. They drew a crowd of 70 thousand people, of which 15 thousand tickets were sold that same day. The presentation was broadcast on TV Globo the same day and gave its name to a CD (which, after being released, was a limited edition, since it included a 2nd CD with international songs recorded in other languages and that were not released in the Brazilian edition). and DVD, that after an undisclosed problem they had to take the first edition out of the stores, and later it came back but with a selection of poorly edited songs and that actually showed images and sound (like the songs on the CD) of the Pacaembu concert, and not from the Maracanã, disappointing many fans who wanted a record of the historic concert. To end the year, they recorded an advertising campaign promoting the use of condoms, which generated controversy because Sandy never usually talks about her personal life and talks about something so intimate on the national network.
In 2003, reruns of some episodes of the series gave fans hope that it would continue that year, however the reruns ended after the start of the year. The series was on the air for 4 years and was changed by the international career that continued that year and made them record the song Bang Bang (You're The One) for the Latin version of the movie Johnny English. Abroad, they participated as judges in the XLIV edition of the Viña del Mar International Song Festival, in Chile. Where Sandy was crowned Miss Congeniality, thanks to her dazzling beauty, talent and humility on stage competing with many internationally known artists. Junior received an invitation to participate in the American film "Lizzie McGuire: Pop Star" as the protagonist alongside Hilary Duff playing the role of the Italian Paolo Valisari, however he had to reject the invitation to record the duo's film called Acquaria, which showed what life would be like on earth after the scarcity of water in the year 3000. In the cast, in addition to Sandy and Júnior, were Emílio Orciolo Neto, Milton Gonçalves, Júlia Lemmertz, Alexandre Borges, Serafim González, Daniel Ribeiro, the boy Igor Rudolf and the dog Wind. The production, which until then was the most expensive in Brazilian cinema, had scenes recorded in the Atacama Desert in Chile and abused Hollywood special effects.
That same year, the CD Identidade was released, another watershed with several songs composed by the two and Júnior as producer. The CD insert did not contain any photos of the two together, not even on the cover (which had 2 versions, each with half of the face of one of them). Despite the fact that critics say otherwise, the album was well received by the public and sold 350,000 copies, an excellent number considering the crisis the recording market was going through due to piracy and downloads via the Internet.. At the end of the year, the brothers helped build the Barretos Cancer Hospital and obtained a pavilion with their names. The children's wing was called "Noely Pereira Lima", the name of her mother.
In 2004, the Identidade Tour began, with simple shows, with only curtains as a stage, emphasizing music, causing confusion in many who were used to mega productions. The fans were able to hear a little about the new arrangements of the CUT commemoration for Labor Day, on Avenida Paulista. That spectacle brought with it 800 thousand people. The tour began in Manaus, for the first time fleeing the Rio-São Paulo axis. Before that, they sang at the Senna In Concert show, in homage to the 10th anniversary of the death of the pilot Ayrton Senna, where in addition to singing together the song É Preciso Saber Viver, Sandy sang Sampa with Caetano Veloso; and Junior, Discoverer of the Sete Mares, with Frejat. Increasingly the brothers appeared alone. Sandy, for the first time, did a solo show, improvising music to sing de palha with Ed Motta and Tony Garrido at the inauguration of the FM Hall. Junior had side projects and came to bring his rocker side out by performing with Andreas Kisser. He was booed at the beginning of the presentation, but ended up being applauded after recognizing his talent as an instrumentalist. Together, they participated in "Quebrando A Rotina", a reality show on the program Caldeirão do Huck that showed a trip between them and Luciano Huck along the Estrada Real, where they composed the song Vida de Marola. Later, they participated in the DVD of the 10-year career of the Lima Family. Sandy sang Escrito no Céu with Lucas Lima, her girlfriend at the time. Junior did second voice in Você Pra Sempre. In October, Sandy appeared at an event against AIDS along with Elisa Lucinda, Preta Gil, Elba Ramalho and Margareth Menezes. That same month, Junior performed for the first time with his band Soul Funk, in which he was a drummer. More and more rumors of the end of the duo increased, however all the false. The brothers did international shows in Japan, one in Tokyo and one in Nagoya. This trip caused problems, because in addition to not having received anything for the shows, a dinner with them was planned without them having been informed about it. In November, they were sponsors of the Happy McDay campaign, and on November 13 they came to work as vendors in one of the McDonald's stores. Sandy also recorded the music Chovendo na Roseira for the soundtrack of the movie A Dona da História.
The year 2005 began, for the duo, at the Carnival. Together with the rest of her family, they paraded in the Samba school X-9 Paulistana, which honored Chitãozinho & amp; She cried out with the mess & # 34; We are born to sing and sambar & # 34;. The parade was in 2nd place and the brothers returned for the Desfile das Campeãs. Before this, Júnior gave his faces at the Bahia Carnival and participated in the electric trio led by Ivete Sangalo. After that, the start of the year was Sandy's. First, she recorded a participation in Pedro Mariano's DVD in homage to Elis Regina, singing with the singer the old hit of his mother's É Com Esse Que Eu Vou. Later, together with Caetano Veloso, he sang a medley with soap opera themes at the 40th anniversary of Rede Globo. In May, he did 2 solo shows singing MPB and jazz at Boubon Street, SP. More and more the brothers took different directions. Sandy even appeared at the Aquarius Project singing erudite music and recorded the music Um Segredo e Um Amor for the Soundtrack of the novel Alma Gêmea. Junior was not far behind. He participated in shows by other artists such as Wilson Sideral and Lenin and, together with Lucas Lima, assumed the musical direction of the piece Liberdade Para Borboletas, in addition to continuing with his band, which began to perform at parties such as the one promoted by Paris Hilton on her visit to Brazil and at the launch of the Nike 10K shoe.
At the end of the year, the couple celebrated their 15th birthday. The event was commemorated with a party for 2,000 fans at the Guaraní Stadium, in Campinas. The main clothes used were exposed, as well as prizes and records representing the sale of each album. In addition to the exhibition, it had a show in which the public had time to ask the duo questions and request old songs.
At the beginning of 2006 the CD Sandy e Júnior was released, 2 and a half years after the release of the last one. It brought a very different sound from the previous albums. On the cover, 2 dolls, which were on the propaganda posters, on the stage of the new tour (also named Sandy and Júnior) and in the Replay clip. The CD had the special participation of Milton Nascimento and Taboo, from the Black Eyed Peas band, on the track Nas Mãos da Sorte, which was a song with a social stamp, with the right to a rap written by Gabriel El Pensador. All the money and profit from that music was donated to the Ayrton Senna Institute. The brothers went to Portugal to promote the CD, they provided shows 2 times. That year, Sandy performed in the children's program Sítio do Picapau Amarelo. Even with her name appearing in the opening credits, her Fairy Felícia appeared only in the 2nd chapter. The 2nd video clip of the CD, Estranho Jeito de Amar, was filmed on 16mm film and had 2 versions, one of them lasting more than 10 minutes. The short film was screened in a special session of the Gramado Film Festival. The music was on the soundtrack of the novel Pé Na Jaca, however the few times it was played it was only instrumental. Following her career as an actress, Sandy participated in the weekly A Diarista, playing herself. In October Soul Funk celebrated 2 years and a party was held at the Na Mata Café to mark the occasion. At the end of the year, the two participated in the opening show of the Vivo Río show house together with Gilberto Gil, Ivete Sangalo, Maria Rita and Adriana Calcanhoto. The group work with the first 2 was repeated in a show in the same place the next day.
The year 2007 began with a special invitation: the brothers were called to sing at the meeting of Pope Benedict XVI with young people from Pacaembu. The couple declined the invitation due to schedule incompatibility, with many saying they had actually been banned by the Catholic Church for campaigning for condoms a few years earlier.
The separation
On April 17, 2007, at a press conference, Sandy and Júnior announced the new CD and DVD, Acústico MTV, and announced that it would be the last of their career as a duo. The project began to be carried out in May and to be launched in August. Until December they continue together, Sandy began her Tour as a soloist and has, for the moment, made 2 presentations, being the premiere at the Palacio das Artes, in Belo Horizonte. Later, he did 2 more shows at Bourbon Street, in SP, one at the Teatro del Sesi, in Porto Alegre, and a last one for the company All Nations, in Rio de Janeiro, without the presence of the fans, causing indignation in all who they waited for the show. Junior was still with his band, which announced the end of SoulFunk on July 18.
After the announcement of the separation, Sandy recorded Scandal, with the band Crossover, from Amon-Rá, brother of Lucas Lima, her fiancé. The music, which is electronic, was composed in English by the singer, contradicting her statement to continue her Jazz and MPB project after a rest period. Junior stated that she intends to be out for 1 month. Before declaring what they intended to do in the future, the couple recorded a CD and DVD together for the last time, on June 5 and 6, at Nuevos Estudios, in São Paulo. The repertoire, which was chosen through voting on the official website, brought great hits from throughout his career such as Maria Chiquinha and had the participation of Ivete Sangalo, Lulu Santos, Marcelo Camelo and Lucas Lima. The project also includes 3 unpublished songs, Segue Em Frente, composed by Junior, Abri os Olhos, the first single from the CD with the singer playing the piano at the request of the fans, and Alguém Como Você, by George Israel, by Kid Abelha.
On July 18, 2007, Junior announced the end of the band Soul Funk. The last concerts were at the Na Mata Café pub on August 1, 2 and 3 and were baptized as 1, 2, 3, I went.
MTV Acoustic, the latest project involving Sandy and Junior as a duo, the CD was released on August 10 and the DVD on September 3. Until December, the brothers did a farewell tour with about 40 concerts. The intention was to pass through almost all the capitals of Brazil and some of the interior of the states. On December 18, 2007, Sandy and Junior performed their last show as a duo, at the Credicard Hall in São Paulo. The Show was well received by the press and had the special participation of Ivete Sangalo. In addition to exciting and surprising moments like Sandy's tribute to her brother, singing the song Angel. The duo, as well as the fans, were moved to tears.
