Sancos District (Lucanas)
The district of Sancos is one of the twenty-one districts of the province of Lucanas, located in the department of Ayacucho in southern Peru. At the same time it is the largest district in the province of Lucanas. The capital of the Sancos district, it bears the same name and is known as the "pearl of Lucanas" and "the land of the brave".
It is located in the southwestern part of the province at an altitude of 2,880 m a.s.l. no. m. 120 km from Puquio, the provincial capital.
In the month of October of each year the festival of the Virgin of Rosario and San Martin de Porres is celebrated. Which is known as the patronal festival.
The district of Sancos has populated centers, annexes and hamlets such as Chaquipampa, Santa Rosa, [Chicalli]], Santa Filomena, Palca, Lalacca, San Luis Alta, Huacata, San Luis Baja, Caja, among others. Sancos is known for its customs and traditions that have been preserved through the years and have been followed from generation to generation. With its shacks, latrines, ccochas, serenades, onces, banquets, office and bullfighting afternoons. Within the district there are archaeological zones, such as Huaychaumarca, Huancarpara and others.
Economy
Its economy is based on agriculture, livestock and mining, the latter has numerous mines such as those called Santa Filomena, San Luis Alta, Santa Rosa, Santa Ana, Santa Rita, Inyahuato, Ccangoripa, Ccantaga, Sunchupampa and la Laytaruma among others.
Infrastructures
Sancos is the capital of the district and has the secondary school "José Carlos Mariátegui" and a primary school 24017[citation required] which is the alma mater of all sanqueños. At the district level it has five schools.
Currently the authorities of the district are building roads to unify with different annexes, villages and other districts; small dams such as Parcca - Parcca (in progress) and Mollechayoc (with technical study to carry out the work) are also being built. Other works are also being developed for the progress of this district, such as the asphalting of the streets of the district.
