San Pelayo de Guareña
San Pelayo de Guareña is a Spanish municipality and town in the province of Salamanca, in the autonomous community of Castilla y León. It is integrated within the Tierra de Ledesma region. It belongs to the judicial district of Salamanca and to the Comarca de Ledesma Commonwealth.
Its municipal area is made up of the towns of Cañedo de las Dueñas, Espino Rapado and San Pelayo de Guareña, it occupies a total area of 27.69 km² and according to the demographic data collected by the INE in 2017, it has a population of 96 inhabitants.
Geography
Rivers: It does not have one, but it does have a bank called Ribera de Cañedo, a tributary of the Tormes. It is born in the term of Topas. It runs in an east-west direction. On its way along the right bank, it collects the small flows of the Mono stream, the Valle Largo stream, the Zamayón stream, the Regalina stream and another stream also called Vallelargo that originates in Palacios. On the left it receives water from the La Vega stream.
The Zamayón Stream and the Espino Stream stand out.
Vegetation: holm oak, etc. The scrub is made up of cistus, brooms, thyme, brambles, holm oak, etc.
History
The reconquest of San Pelayo de Guareña was carried out by the kings of León once Ledesma, Juzbado, Guadramiro or Salamanca were reconquered by Ramiro II of León in the X. Later, in 1136 San Pelayo was granted by King Alfonso VII of León to the bishopric of Salamanca, being called "Sant Pelayo". With the creation of the current provinces in 1833, San Pelayo de Guareña was included in the province of Salamanca, within the Leonesa Region. On July 2, 1916, the town changed its official name from San Pelayo to San Pelayo. from Guareña.

Monuments and places of interest
This town has a unique Romanesque church, the church of San Pelayo de Guareña. Very unique for its interior configuration as an amphitheater. The altar is located on a lower plane than the area of the parishioners, who are attending mass as a Roman theater on scales, rising above the altar.
