San Pedro de Rozados

San Pedro de Rozados is a Spanish municipality and town in the province of Salamanca, in the autonomous community of Castilla y León. It is integrated within the region of Campo de Salamanca (Campo Charro). It belongs to the judicial district of Salamanca.

Its municipal area is made up of the towns of Aldealgordo de Abajo, Aldealgordo de Arriba, Bernoy, Carrascal del Asno, Cemprón, Continos, Esteban Isidro, Rozados, San Pedro de Rozados, Terrubias, Tordelalosa, Tornadizos, Torre de Juan Vázquez, Torre de Nueva Banca and Torrecilla de San Benito, in addition to the unpopulated areas of Barcial, Beconuño, Cequeña, Gueribáñez and Valmucina, it occupies a total area of 102.19 km² and according to demographic data collected by the INE in 2017, It has a population of 311 inhabitants.

Geography

The town is located on a small hill where there are some picturesque houses attached to each other.

History

Some of the first signs of human settlement in the municipality are directly related to the Roman Vía de la Plata, on which an inscription appeared in the area of the Siete Carreras, narrating the repair that was undertaken in part of this route in the time of Nero.

In any case, the foundation of San Pedro de Rozados as a town dates back to the repopulation carried out by the kings of León in the Middle Ages, being integrated into the quarter of Peña del Rey in the jurisdiction of Salamanca, within the Kingdom de León, then called Sant Pedro de Roçados. As for the districts of the municipality in the XIIIth century there were the following: In the Cuarto de Peña del Rey: Aldea del Gordo (Aldeagordo), Bernoy, Carrascal (Carrascal del Asno), Cemprun (Cemprón), Estevan Esudo (Esteban Isidro), Torruvias (Terrubias), Torre de Iohan Skews (Rook of Juan Vázquez), Tornadizos. In the bathroom: Gondinos (Continos), Obter la Losa (Tordelalosa), Cequenna (Cequeda). With the creation of the current provinces in 1833, San Pedro de Rozados was framed in the province of Salamanca, within the Region Leonesa.
