Samantha Eggar
Samantha Eggar (Hampstead, 5 March 1939), born Victoria Louise Samantha Marie Elizabeth Therese Eggar , is a British actress.
Biography
Eggar began her acting career on the stage, working in companies dedicated to Shakespearean plays. In 1962, while acting in A Midsummer Night's Dream, she was spotted by a film producer who hired her for her first film, set in the world of students. He then made three other films, until he achieved international fame in 1965 with The Collector, co-starring Terence Stamp. In this film Eggar plays a young woman who is kidnapped by a deranged man, also young, that he hopes that she falls in love with him. For her performance, she won the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for an Oscar.
Until 1971 Eggar made other films with which he was successful, especially in the Anglo-Saxon world, and in which he shared the bill with actors such as Richard Harris, Rex Harrison and Sean Connery. However, from then on the films in which he intervened were mediocre and went unnoticed. He had greater fortune on television, a medium in which he has worked continuously up to the present, both in movies and in series. In this medium, he had as co-stars such famous actors as Yul Brynner, with whom he made the series The King and I , or Audrey Hepburn. Another of his artistic activities in which he has been successful has been lending his voice to characters in animated films, such as The Legend of the Valiant Prince . He has also continued to appear sporadically in plays.
Eggar was married from 1964 to 1971, when she divorced actor Tom Stern. She has two children, producer Nicolas Stern and actress Jenna Stern.
