Sakura Kinomoto (木之本 桜 Kinomoto Sakura?) is a fictional character and the main protagonist of the manga and anime Cardcaptor Sakura, created by the group of mangakas CLAMP. For all productions spoken in Japanese of the character (including films, music and video games), Sakura is dubbed by Sakura Tange, while for the Spanish versions it was dubbed by Cristina Hernández for the Spanish-American version, and by Isabel Gaudí for the Spanish version. In both the manga and the anime, Sakura is a ten-year-old girl who receives the mission to collect a set of magical cards known as "Clow cards", which were scattered around the fictional Tomoeda region when being freed from the seal that kept them protected inside a book. Sakura is able to sense and use magic, allowing her to use Clow cards throughout the series.

Name

The name given to Sakura means 'cherry blossom'. Her surname, Kinomoto, means 'the origin of the forest'.

Cardcaptor Sakura

At the beginning of the series Sakura is ten years old and lives in the fictional town of Tomoeda, Japan.

Personality

Sakura is an extremely energetic, cheerful and curious character. She is very athletic and a member of her school's cheerleading team. Her “invincible spell,” “No matter what happens, everything will be fine” (絶対大丈夫だよ" Zettai daijōbu dayo"), was passed down to her during countless trials and obstacles to master the magical abilities of her. She is normally smart, clumsy, somewhat absent-minded and a bit of a crybaby, but she has perceptive moments about her. Her favorite food is pancakes and fried shrimp. Her birthday is April 1. She doesn't like math.

Sakura's optimistic and trustworthy character allows her to be friends with virtually everyone, and the series focuses on the friendships she makes with different people, whether they are strangers, acquaintances or rivals. In fact, her personality is a dominant factor in her relationships, especially with Shaoran.

As Card Captor

When Sakura finds a book called "The Clow" in the basement of her house, she accidentally releases the magic cards contained in it, the "Clow cards" and the guardian of the cards, Kero, is tasked with recovering them before they cause damage. disasters in the world, thus turning it into "Card Captor" or Card Hunter. In exchange, and to get the cards back from her, she gains the right to use the power of the cards. It originally contains 19 cards in the manga, increasing to 52 in the anime.

In the third season, Sakura had no experience converting Clow cards to Sakura cards. Because of that, Sakura falls unconscious. Having a little more experience, Sakura stops getting tired when converting cards and she is more attentive to the magician Clow Reed. Before the end of the third season, Sakura converts all the cards, but with the help of Yue, Kero and Shaoran, she allowed the LIGHT and DARK cards to be converted, which resist conversion. However, in the anime, Sakura is both confused and bewildered once Shaoran declares his love, which her tears create card No. 53 (unnamed), which is used in the second film.

Because the Clow cards, converted to Sakura Cards in the third season, became transparent, Sakura obtained another key the next day that allows using transparent cards, designed for that key.

Appearance

Sakura has short, honey brown hair, light skin, and emerald green eyes. In certain manga sketches and official artwork, this sometimes changes. In addition to her anime hair and eyes, her hair is sometimes reddish brown, her eyes are sometimes gray or blue, and her skin is sometimes olive. As a child, she is naturally short in stature, but grows slowly as the years go by.

Sakura's outfits change frequently throughout the series. Her most common everyday outfit is her school uniform, as well as her battle outfit, which changes depending on the season. Her winter school uniform is a black long-sleeved shirt with red and white sleeves, a white scarf with a red stripe, and a white pleated miniskirt with a white knee-length skirt. On particularly cold days, she wears a thick black coat with her school insignia on the back. Her summer uniform is a white half-sleeved shirt with a red scarf and a black pleated miniskirt. Throughout the year, she wears black Mary Jane shoes along with white socks and a white sailor hat with black trim.

Family and friends

Sakura lives with her older brother, Toya Kinomoto, and her father, Fujitaka Kinomoto. Sakura's mother, Nadeshiko Kinomoto, died when she was just three years old.

At the beginning of the series, Sakura is in love with Yukito Tsukishiro, her brother's best friend. She constantly tries to make the best impression on him, sometimes even competing for Yukito's affections with her rival to capture the cards, Shaoran Li. In the third season she decides to confess her love to Yukito, but he does not reciprocate her feelings, since he feels a brotherly love towards her and not a romantic one. Apparently in the future shown in Tsubasa Chronicle she is married to Li Syaoran.

Sakura's best friend is Tomoyo Daidouji. She is one of the few people to whom Sakura has confided her secret of being the Card Captor, Sakura had to reveal the secret to Tomoyo Daidouji since during an episode where Tomoyo, who is fond of filming, recorded Sakura flying at night. through the sky when she was using the flight card after having just captured it the morning after what happened at the school in the city of Tomoeda where they attended classes Tomoyo shows the video to Sakura where she was flying through the sky in this way was that she was forced to confess that she was a kind of "magician" and that her mission was to capture all the Clow Cards. In addition, Tomoyo is her best friend, she is in charge of designing all the costumes that Sakura uses on her missions and films all her adventures with her video camera since she is a fan of Sakura. In the anime and manga you can see the great appreciation that Tomoyo has for Sakura.

Sakura's most recognized relationship is the one she has with her friend, initially rival, Syaoran Li. Syaoran, who is also trying to capture the cards, sees Sakura as his rival. Despite Syaoran's curt and aggressive attitude towards her, both at school and when capturing the cards, Sakura tries to be kind to him and always thanks him for his help. Little by little, Syaoran changes his attitude towards her, but does not admit that he is falling in love with Sakura. After the trial with Yue, with all the cards captured, Syaoran stops being her rival and Sakura sees him as a close friend. Syaoran confesses his love for Sakura after the last battle with Eriol Hiragizawa. Sakura is initially confused about her feelings, but after some time of reflection she concludes that Syaoran is the person she loves the most. In the manga Sakura is able to confess what she feels to him shortly before he has to leave for Hong Kong, and she meets him again 2 years later, on her first day of high school. In the anime Syaoran leaves and Sakura cannot confess what she feels to him until he returns to the city in the second film, 'The Sealed Letter'.

Sakura's relationship with Eriol Hiragizawa is one of friendship and affection, it can be seen that at first Sakura could appear to him as a girl attracted to him but then we realize that she actually felt nothing more than friendship with Sakura. Finding out that Eriol was the wizard Clow in reincarnation, she is very shocked, and fights with him. A strange response from Eriol that left Sakura confused was "it's all over" Sakura looks confused and Eriol gives her a definitive answer and everything ends until her departure.
