The parish of Saint Michael is home to Bridgetown, the capital of Barbados, named for the bridges over the Careenage, the city is the center of commercial activity in Barbados, as well as the center of the public transport network. St. Michael is home to prestigious schools, such as Combermere, Harrison College or St. Michael School and various government offices (the Ministry of Education, Industry and Foreign Affairs).

In the capital of Barbados we can also find the international port, which is of vital importance, since most of the tourism that comes to the island does so via cruise ships.
