Saint Mary of Sando
Santa María de Sando is a Spanish municipality and town in the province of Salamanca, in the autonomous community of Castilla y León. It is integrated within the Tierra de Ledesma region. It belongs to the judicial district of Salamanca.
Its municipal area is made up of a single population center, it occupies a total area of 13.89 km² and according to the demographic data collected in the municipal register prepared by the INE in 2017, it has a population of 114 inhabitants.
History
The foundation of Santa María de Sando dates back to the repopulation carried out by the Leonese kings in the Middle Ages, being attached to the Alfoz de Ledesma, in the Kingdom of León. In the XIV century a part of the term came to belong to the order of the Augustinians by donation of Lope de Estúñiga in 1339, a fact that lasted until the XIX century. With the creation of the current provinces in 1833, Santa María de Sando was integrated into the province of Salamanca, within the Leonese Region.
