The Saga Prefecture (佐賀県, Saga-ken? ) is located on the island of Kyūshū in Japan. The capital is the city of Saga.

History

In ancient times, the area comprised of Nagasaki Prefecture and Saga Prefecture was called Hizen Province. The current name dates from the Meiji Restoration. The rice-growing culture has thrived here since ancient times, and vestiges can be seen at the Nabatake ruins at Karatsu and the Yoshinogari site at Yoshinogari. Saga is historically known as the cradle of samurai warriors, as well as the high sense of discipline and the perpetuation and conservation of ancient customs.
