The Rutaceae (Rutaceae) are a family of angiosperm plants belonging to the order Sapindales. It groups around 160 genera and 1600 species.

Features

Woody or rarely herbaceous plants, provided with oil-secreting glands. Leaves alternate or opposite, simple or compound, without stipules, sometimes with axillary spines. Flowers generally hermaphroditic, actinomorphic or zygomorphic, pentameric or tetrameric, with free or welded parts at the base; androecium with a variable number of stamens, often the same or twice the number of petals, with an intrastaminal fleshy nectar disc; superior or semiinferous gynoecium, pluricarpellate, generally syncarpic and plurilocular. Various inflorescences. Fruits in capsule, polyfollicle, hesperidium, drupe or samara.

It has the following subfamilies: Citroideae, Dictyolomatoideae, Flindersioideae, Rutoideae, Spathelioideae, Toddalioideae. In total there are about 1600 species, of which the majority grow in tropical and subtropical countries.
