Synopsis
Robin of Locksley, better known as Robin Hood (Kevin Costner) is an English nobleman who, together with King Richard, Lionheart in the Third Crusade, is imprisoned in a Jerusalem prison. In his escape, he will meet fellow prisoner Azeem (Morgan Freeman), who, grateful that Hood has saved his life, decides to stay with him until he returns the favor.
When Robin and Azeem arrive in England, now ruled by the despot sheriff of Nottingham (Alan Rickman), aided by his cousin Guy of Gisborne (Michael Wincott) and the witch Mortianna (Geraldine McEwan), both discover that Robin's father, Lord Locksley (Brian Blessed), has been murdered by the King, because he did not want to join the sheriff in his plans to overthrow the king. As revenge, Robin, helped by Azeem, starts robbing the nobility and enriching the Church to feed the most needy. So the sheriff puts a price on Hood's head at one hundred gold pieces.
Hiding out in Sherwood Forest, Robin and Azeem meet people who, for one reason or another, are also hiding from the power of the sheriff of Nottingham. United for the same cause, the group, led by Robin Hood, plans their joint revenge. What no one counts on is that Lady Marian (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio), whom the sheriff wants to marry and have children for being a relative of Richard I, and Hood are in love with each other.
Finally, when Lady Marian is forced to marry the sheriff, it will be Hood's group that sacks the fortress and rids the country of that group of cruel rulers and, also, the young lady. After that Robin Hood and Lady Marian marry with the blessing of King Richard in gratitude for what Robin Hood did.
