Robert Downey Jr.
Robert John Downey Jr. (New York, April 4, 1965) is an American actor, voice actor, producer and singer. He began his acting career at an early age, appearing in several films directed by his father, Robert Downey Sr., and in his childhood he studied acting at various New York academies. He moved with his father to California, but dropped out to focus entirely on his career.
After numerous failed projects, Downey gained relevance in the cinema starring in the film Chaplin (1992), a performance with which he won a BAFTA and was nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe. However, he was involved in a series of legal problems for drug possession that led to his arrest numerous times and in turn the production companies refused to hire him for new roles. Thanks to the support of Mel Gibson, Downey was able to return to acting and in 2001 gained recognition on television with his role in the series Ally McBeal, with which he won a Golden Globe. Biography
1965-1991: early years and beginnings in acting
Robert John Downey Jr. was born on April 4, 1965 in Manhattan, New York City (United States), the son of Robert Downey Sr. and Elsie Ann, both actors. He has an older sister named Allyson, and is of Lithuanian, Hungarian, and Irish ancestry through his father, as well as German, Swiss, and Scottish ancestry through his mother. His original family name was Elias, but his father changed it to Downey so he could join the United States Army. United States.
