Riyōko Ikeda
Riyoko Ikeda (池田理代子, Ikeda Riyoko), born December 18, 1947 in Osaka, is a Japanese mangaka.
He specializes in shôjo manga, that is, manga aimed at girls. In fact, as a member of the 24 group, she is one of those responsible for the emergence of this genre. Her best-known work is Berusaiyu no bara ( The Rose of Versailles or & # 34; Lady Oscar & # 34;), set in the French Revolution.
Berubara, as she is affectionately called by her fans, was published in the (then weekly) Margaret magazine in 1972, it would become in a live action movie ('Lady Oscar', 1979) and in an animated series (1980). Within his work, we can mention Orpheus no Mado ("Orpheus' Window", 1976-1981 in Margaret), set in the Russian Revolution, and Oniisama e... ("To my brother", 1973-1975 in Margaret), a story involving topics such as drugs, lesbianism and suicide.
In 1995, Ikeda decided to pursue a musical career as a soprano. Recently, between 2001-2002, Ikeda published the opera The Ring of the Nibelung, written by Richard Wagner, in a manga version.
